The Design Manager – Technical Focus is responsible for leading and managing the design process across multiple projects with a strong emphasis on technical excellence, constructability, and coordination. This role will oversee internal design teams, ensure quality and consistency in deliverables, and drive innovation in technical design solutions. External engagement will be limited to approximately 10%, primarily for coordination with clients, consultants, and stakeholders as needed.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of design solutions with a focus on technical accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Review and approve design documentation, ensuring clarity, completeness, and constructability.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to design staff on technical matters and best practices.
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to integrate design with execution strategies.
- Manage design schedules, deliverables, and resources across multiple concurrent projects.
- Coordinate with project managers to align design efforts with overall project goals and timelines.
- Monitor design progress and proactively resolve technical challenges.
- Implement and maintain design quality control processes.
- Conduct design reviews and audits to ensure adherence to standards and project requirements.
- Champion continuous improvement in design workflows and documentation.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations as needed to support technical discussions.
- Coordinate with external consultants and stakeholders to ensure design alignment.
- Support business development efforts with technical input when requested.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in design management or technical design leadership.
- Strong understanding of building systems, codes, and construction processes.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional licensure (e.g., PE, RA) is a plus.
- Experience in design-build or integrated project delivery environments.
- Familiarity with sustainability and energy-efficient design principles.
