JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse – Family Health Center (FHC) addiction medicine functions as a vital member of the healthcare team who contributes to the success by demonstrating patient focus, effective communication, professionalism, self-development, and teamwork. This individual utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care provided to patients and their families. The Registered Nurse - FHC A&DR demonstrates excellent clinical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills, and makes decisions consistent with the organization’s policies, department protocols, guidelines, and the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act to achieve high-quality, inclusive, equitable and culturally and linguistically appropriate care in a cost-effective, patient centered manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive patient care.
- Works independently within scope of practice to provide safe, optimal patient care.
- Performs clinical procedures in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and protocols, and as directed by provider. This includes but is not limited to:
- Always adhering to privacy and patient confidentiality standards.
- Assisting providers with exams, tests, procedures, patient communications, etc.
- Administering medications, injections, and other treatments.
- Performing symptom-based triage.
- Performing specialized or department-specific nursing functions as educationally prepared.
- Obtains and documents complete patient data in an accurate, concise, and timely manner.
- Processes provider’s orders, prepares appropriate forms, and schedules appointments and services. Arranges for referrals when indicated.
- Releases medications based on treatment assisted medication level
- Communicates with patients regarding their concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider.
- Assesses and addresses patient education needs to promote patient self-management.
- Utilizes computer applications as required for patient care to ensure accuracy.
- Provides cross coverage at fixed medical sites and case management.
- Delegates tasks as determined by applicable state statutes and department leadership; takes accountability for delegated tasks.
- Collaborates with providers and other health team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Acts as a clinical leader and resource, promotes a positive work environment, and supports and/or leads change initiatives within the department and organization.
- Participates in quality improvement activities to promote quality healthcare.
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations and remains current with nursing procedures in emergency situations.
- Maintains currency of required certifications/registries, and demonstrates maintained competence in job-related skills, work-related technologies and equipment, and use of the electronic health record.
- Participates in educational, instructional, and professional development activities.
- Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
- Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Cross-trains to other roles and responsibilities within FHC A&DR as needed.
- Actively participates in required department meetings, committees, in-services, etc.
- Trains and mentor’s co-workers, new employees, and students.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Two years nursing experience.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required:
- Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded within 90 days of employment.
- Additional department-specific certifications, licenses, or memberships may be required (varies by department/location).
