High School CTE Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair
Position Overview
Cocke County High School is seeking a skilled and motivated Automotive Maintenance &
Light Repair Teacher to join our Career & Technical Education (CTE) department beginning
January 2, 2026. The successful candidate will prepare students for entry-level careers in the
automotive service industry, emphasizing practical skills, safety, diagnostics, and industry
standards.
Key Responsibilities
? Teach courses in Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair, aligned with Tennessee state
CTE standards and industry best practices.
? Instruct students in areas such as engine performance, brakes, steering/suspension,
electrical/electronic systems, automatic/manually operated systems, HVAC, diagnostics,
and preventative maintenance.
? Prepare students for ASE Student Certification and other relevant industry credentials.
? Maintain a safe, clean, and well-equipped automotive lab/shop; enforce safety and
sanitation protocols.
? Develop hands-on, project-based instruction using real-world tasks, diagnostic tools, and
repair equipment.
? Assess and document student progress; adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
? Collaborate with CTE director, work-based learning coordinators, and local industry
partners to provide internships, job shadowing, and career pathway opportunities.
? Maintain up-to-date knowledge of automotive technologies, tools, industry standards, and
certification requirements.
? Serve as a mentor/advisor for Skills USA.
Qualifications
Required:
? Valid Tennessee teaching licensure with endorsement in automotive technology, auto
maintenance, or comparable CTE/Transportation field or eligibility to enroll in a EPP
program to obtain occupational licensure.
? Demonstrated experience in the automotive service / repair industry (maintenance/light
repair) with hands-on knowledge of current technologies and systems.
? Familiarity with ASE certification standards or willingness/ability to prepare students for
such credentials.
? Strong organizational, communication, and classroom/shop management skills.
? Commitment to student safety, technical excellence, and student-centered instruction.
