Job Summary: 

As a Network Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting our rapidly growing core network infrastructure. You will be responsible for configuring, monitoring, and optimizing key network components to ensure optimal performance, security, and high availability. This hands-on technical role demands expertise in supporting large-scale network deployments, troubleshooting complex issues, and driving continuous improvement efforts to support i3’s growth and enhance customer satisfaction. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in design, deployment and management enterprise-class network solutions, integrating core, aggregation, and access layers for broadband services.
  • Assist in configuration of routers, switches, firewalls and Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) from multiple vendors, such as Cisco, DZS and Nokia.
  • Monitor network performance and diagnose, resolve, and escalate as needed to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Assist in planning and forecasting network capacity to support i3’s growing subscriber base, ensuring adequate bandwidth and minimizing congestion.
  • Assist in implementation of network security measures, including access controls, encryption, and firewall policies to safeguard against unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Assist in development and maintaining network diagrams, operational procedures, and performance reports.  
  • Collaborate with field technicians, NOC staff, and vendor support teams to ensure timely incident resolution.
  • Participate in hardware and software updates, firmware upgrades, and system patching to maintain optimal system performance and security compliance.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand and address network requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and change logs adhering to industry best practices.
  • Assist in the development of technical documentation to demonstrate problem identification and resolution processes.
  • Follow established configuration and change management policies to ensure proper approval and successful implementation of network infrastructure changes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications: 

Education and Experience: 

  • Experience in Networking, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of in-depth working experience in network and telecom environments.
  • Proven experience in network engineering or similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Core Routing and Switching design, configuration, and troubleshooting

  • Knowledge of the OSI or TCP/IP model, including IPv4, IPv6, NAT, and CGNAT.
  • Knowledge of networking best practices, including:
  • Routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, ISIS)
  • Spanning-tree, VTP, Port Channels, Load Balancing, SPAN
  • DDI Management Services: DNS, DHCP, IPAM
  • MPLS traffic engineering design, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Segment Routing Concepts
  • NAT
  • Understanding of Quality of Service (QoS) configuration and implementation.
  • Knowledge of network security best practices.
  • Experience/knowledge of multicast IP, MPEG-TS, ASI, and MPEG-4 video transport and encoding protocols
  • Experience with coax wiring, F-connectors and BNC fittings, and associated tools such as wire strippers and crimpers
  • Familiarity with C-band and L-band RF and associated components (splitters, couplers, termination, LNBs, filters)

Working Conditions: 

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods, working at a computer up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to operate personal computers, telephones, and other common office equipment.
  • Able to climb and work on a ladder
  • Able to install and remove devices from server racks
  • Carry up 30lbs
  • Able to work in all weather conditions (snow, rain, etc....)
  • Participate in after-hours on call rotation.
