About the Department
Alabama State University, Academic Affairs, invites applications to fill the position of Instructional Technologist/Assistant Professor. The Instructional Technologist, under the supervision of the LWLC Coordinator of Technology Operations and Digital Services, will be responsible for the design, implementation and assessment of library instruction tutorials, videos and other media to enhance student learning of the library research skills and knowledge of collections and services. Other responsibilities include developing and offering workshops to introduce instructors to the effective use of digital technology to support teaching and learning and assisting with management of LWLC information technology, media, and digitization activities. This position also provides technical support for the Library Innovation and design spaces and for library technologies as needed. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing and maintaining the library’s instructional learning tool, “The ASU Experience”
Creates, develops, and implements online learning objects to include but not limited to interactive tutorials, webcasts, videos, primarily using open-source technologies
Responsible for delivering training to all LWLC student workers and LWLC employees on the use and troubleshooting of all makerspace equipment, available technology, and software
Assist in providing curriculum enrichment and informational services to classes who visit the Library Innovation and design spaces
Maintains awareness of current trends in maker technology and culture.
Provides individualized technical assistance to library users.
Works with library staff to develop appropriate tools to support the implementation of the Information Literacy/ QEP applications
Stays abreast of best practices in instructional design theories and applications as they relate to learning
Assesses the impact of library technologies in collaboration with teaching librarians
Contributes to the library’s mission through online teaching and support
Assists in the development and management of the LWLC social media applications
Assists in the development and management of the LWLC's web presence
Assists with identifying, acquiring, and maintaining hardware, software, and network products
Performs other duties as assigned in support of the LWLC’s mission
Uses and maintains social media applications to perform job responsibilities as appropriate
Works with library faculty to enhance teaching and learning using instructional technologies and applications
Will be assigned as needed to work evening and weekend hours in public services
Ability to satisfy requirements for promotion tenure/faculty rank
Assist the Coordinator of Technology Operations and Digital Services in duties and services in the LWLC
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Instructional Technology/ Design, computer science, computer information systems, information science or a related field, experience with classroom equipment and related peripheral devices, and have knowledge and experience in using social media to support teaching and learning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with learning management systems and the ability to integrate instructional technologies (e.g., Camtasia, Jing, Adobe, etc.) in courses with library components; preferred
Demonstrated knowledge with emerging technologies applicable to online pedagogical practices; preferred
An understanding of instructional design theories, methodologies, and best practices, including interactive teaching methods; preferred
Demonstrated project management skills; preferred
Ability to work well independently, as well as in a collaborative team environment
Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
Demonstrated management skills, knowledge and experience; preferred
Knowledge of digital imaging software products (including Photoshop, OCR software, and content management systems) required
Intermediate to advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Windows; required
Ability to use multimedia technologies that incorporate video, audio and digital information to create and author presentations.
