The Custodial Lead, under the direction of the Supervisor or Manager, plays a vital role in supporting custodial operations and helping ensure service continuity across campus. This role is part of the University's Lead Worker Program, which was created to strengthen on-site leadership, improve real-time responsiveness, and support communication between teams.
The Custodial Lead is a working role—not a supervisory position—and is expected to perform regular custodial tasks while also assisting with coordination, equipment upkeep, and team support. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, and comfortable using technology to support day-to-day operations.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform custodial duties in various areas to support team operations and fill gaps as needed
Assist with stocking, ordering, and delivering custodial supplies (paper products, soap, cleaning materials, etc.)
Use a company-issued tablet or smartphone to receive and respond to service requests in real time
Help with routine equipment maintenance and report any malfunctions or issues
Support team communication by relaying information between custodial teams and supervisors
Assist with quality control efforts and corrective action processes based on inspection results
Participate in team huddles and assist in training new or existing staff members
Help manage work order submissions and follow-ups
Step in to cover duties for absent team members when needed
Key Interactions:
Collaborate with supervisors and managers to support leadership initiatives
Communicate effectively with custodial staff, clients, and campus personnel
Act as a support link between teams and management
Qualifications:
Previous custodial experience required; prior experience in a lead or support role is a plus
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to adapt to changing needs throughout the shift
Comfortable using a mobile device or tablet to manage tasks and communication
Attention to detail and commitment to high standards of cleanliness and service
Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work for extended periods
Working Conditions:
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift
May be required to work in various buildings or environments across campus
Flexibility to cover shifts or work occasional events as needed
