(12 month) Desktop & Systems Support (Primarily Mac Environment)

Reports to: Director of Operations

Employment Information: Full time, 12-month non-bargaining unit position


Position Scope:

The primary role of the Desktop & Systems Support is to perform a wide range of duties providing computer technical support for staff at all levels of the organization and for all educational programs for the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (PSD).


Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience troubleshooting and repairing personal computer systems in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical safety issues related to computer repair andtroubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation to aid in trouble-shooting andproblem resolution.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and configurations.
  • Familiarity with cloud based servers.
  • Ability to use databases and spreadsheets for data collection.
  • Ability to work positively with other members of the workgroup and with users.
  • Must also have excellent troubleshooting skills, with confidence and motivation to acquire, and implement solutions.
  • Must have the ability to support computer-related technologies such as Interactive White
  • Boards, desktop and laptop computers, printer/scanners, iPads, iPhones, digital cameras(video and still) -- as well as audio-visual setups including LCD projection equipment,public address systems, etc.
  • Apple Certification as an Authorized Repair Technician is desired.
  • Google G Suite certification is desired
  • Customer service mindset required
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, a supportive team player, and an excellent communicator.
  • Ability to communicate how to use PSD’s technology, software and systems to all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness and patience to walk through and support staff that need additional assistance.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn sign language.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of all campus wide systems.
  • Install and maintain computers and related hardware, as well as software.
  • Performs diagnostic testing and trouble-shooting of hardware and software.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance with the organization's computer systems, and related technologies.
  • Identify problems, troubleshoot and provide solutions to assist users.
  • Work on a variety of projects and requests involving computer setup and configuration, upgrades, work tracking, research, documentation, inventory, end user training, and communication with vendors for product evaluations and support.
  • Participates in strategic planning and budget planning and tracking.
  • Oversees the Audio-visual needs of the school.
  • Evaluates the need for and recommends new technology to meet the School’s academic needs.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Director of Operations and/or Headof School.

Requirements

Physical Demands:

  • Willingness to travel within the state, to travel overnight, and to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.
  • Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • Regularly walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, stoop and reach with hands and arms.
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screen
