Corporate Communications Specialist
Position Overview
TEGNA is seeking a highly organized and motivated Corporate Communications Associate to support external and internal communications strategies and help shape how TEGNA communicates its brand and lives its values — We Demand the Truth, We Work Smarter, We Do the Right Thing, and We Win. This role will strengthen relationships with journalists, industry stakeholders, and media outlets while also supporting internal communication efforts across our company platforms.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position offers a chance to work on high-impact communications that reflect TEGNA’s values and contribute to our mission of serving local communities.
What You’ll Do
Support day-to-day media relations, including drafting press materials, coordinating outreach, and responding to reporter inquiries.
Maintain and update national, local, and trade media contact lists for targeted, effective outreach.
Monitor media coverage of TEGNA, its stations, and the broader broadcasting industry; track, compile, and analyze reports for leadership.
Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, statements, and briefing materials.
Assist with TEGNA’s corporate social media presence, ensuring content reflects company priorities and resonates with key audiences.
Prepare executives and spokespeople for media opportunities by developing background briefs and talking points.
Collaborate with marketing, station communications teams, and corporate leaders to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
Pitch proactive stories on company initiatives, corporate responsibility programs, and thought leadership.
Support internal communications by drafting and distributing messages across platforms like Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
Track industry trends and share insights that inform communications strategies.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
3–5 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or media relations preferred.
Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
Experience managing corporate messaging on social media.
Familiarity with media monitoring tools, databases, and trade publications.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with colleagues, journalists, and senior leaders.
A proactive mindset and a keen interest in media industry trends.
