DEPARTMENT/PROJECT OVERVIEW 

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD or Club) CHANGES LIVES through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable and fun environment. BGCGSD’s mission is to inspire and enable youth to achieve academic success, build good character and responsible citizenship and make healthy lifestyle choices. We have been providing a safe, fun and positive environment with trained and dedicated professional staff. Members are involved in age-appropriate activities based upon our three priority outcomes of Academic Success, Character Development and Healthy Lifestyles.

POSITION OVERVIEW  

Responsible for all aspects of the organization’s operations and program with primary concern for strategic vision/planning, leadership and management, and coaching of direct reports and Operation Team members. Also oversees the technology needs, transportation, facilities, and budgets of the service locations and programs. Works closely with the Board of Directors and applicable Board committees. Is a member of the organization’s Executive Leadership Team.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

FUNCTION NAME/TASKS          

PROGRAMS

  1. Oversee the implementation and delivery of operations, programs, services, and activities that facilitate achievement of youth development outcomes. 
  2. Lead the development and implementation of organizational infrastructure, in relation to need and available resources, to facilitate achievement of operational goals.
  3. Ensure the 5 key elements for positive youth development are ingrained in each Club. 
  4. Ensure that all Clubs are implementing all aspects of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s tools for optimum Club experiences effectively. 
  5. Ensure grant requirements are met and related evaluations are completed in a timely manner. 
  6. Oversee program evaluation systems that showcase program impact. 
  7. Outreach to community members on programmatic engagement and partnerships. 
  8. Ensure that programs are developmentally safe and culturally inclusive for all Club members. 
  9. Conceptualize, develop and monitor budgets related to program operation activities and initiatives including curriculum development and staff development.
  10. Assess overall program effectiveness in relation to participation, achievement of goals, impact, and other criterion.
  11. Implement changes to programming to suit the needs of the community, youth being served, grant requirements, etc.

 PROPERTY    

  1. Manage administrative and operational processes, overseeing the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and facilities. 
  2. Plan and manage Club safety and risk mitigation programs.
  3. Review real estate transactions and insurance coverage. 
  4. Advise finance personnel on Club needs and cost. 
  5. Assist in the planning of fixed assets replacement schedule. 

PERSONNEL

  1. Has the authority to recommend hiring, firing, disciplining, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of direct reports and Operation Team members. 
  2. Lead a staff of professionals to deliver on established annual goals and objectives; be accountable for ensuring that set goals and objectives are met; motivate an enthusiastic and effective team that works in cooperation, but independently. 
  3. Communicate job expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing performance; review compensation actions; enforce policies and procedures.  
  4. Oversee the planning, conducting, and coordination of Club events, including All-Staff training events and activities.
  5. Ensure all staff, volunteers, and other individuals follow Club protocol and procedures. 
  6. Ensure that all program staff receives needed training and coaching. 
  7. Ensure that BGCGSD is meeting all requirements of insurance carriers (driver’s training, CPR, First Aid, emergency evacuation plans, etc.). 
  8. Assist in the creation and maintenance of job descriptions, reviews, and personnel documents. 
  9. Maintains close contact with staff to provide technical assistance in matters of property and risk management.

STRATEGIC PLANNING & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT 

  1. Oversee the identification and evaluation of opportunities to improve program effectiveness on the basis of participation and achievement of stated goals. Recommends modifications to improve performance, as appropriate. 
  2. Align BGCGSD with National Initiatives of BGCA.
  3. Ensure the completion of required reports in compliance with BGCA and other entities; and prepare required interagency reports. 
  4. Help to open new Club programs and service locations in needed areas throughout San Diego County. 
  5. Lead in developing and cultivating strategic partnerships within community agencies and organizations to further advance Club programs. 
  6. Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the organization's mission and goals.
  7. Identify growth opportunities through partnerships, funding sources, and new program initiatives.
  8. Lead cross-functional teams to drive innovation and sustainability in revenue-generating activities.
  9. Build strategic alliances with community organizations, government agencies, and private sector entities.
  10. Negotiate and manage contracts, MOUs, and collaborative agreements.

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

  1. Assists in organization budget development; monitor and report variances in revenues and expenditures. 
  2. Assist as needed with organizational resource development projects, events, grants, donor cultivation. 
  3. Regularly invite individuals, corporations, and foundation guests to the Clubs for tours. 
  4. Work with Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Development as needed on cultivating major donors. 
  5. Review and provide feedback to the Director of Grants  in the researching and development of program-related grant funding opportunities. 
  6. Work with Director of Grants and Director of Impact  to ensure all grant requirements are being met at the identified sites.
  7. Communicate and report out regularly to programming staff on Club programs and events. 
  8. Maintains contact with external community groups, schools and others.

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Represent the organization in the community.
  2. Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for Club programs, services and activities.
  3. Interacts regularly with President/CEO and as assigned with the Board and its committees.  
  4. Assist in developing volunteers and community donors to support Club locations, programs and operations.
  5. Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  6. Perform other duties assigned by the President/CEO.

SAFETY & WELLNESS

  1. Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all youth, staff, and visitors by consistently enforcing safety protocols and organizational policies.
  2. Be proactive in identifying and reporting any safety concerns or maintenance requirements to ensure a safe working environment for everyone.
  3. Participate in safety drills and contribute to ongoing risk assessment and emergency preparedness efforts.
  4. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Club safety and wellness policies and procedures across the Club.

QUALIFICATIONS            

  1. BS from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience working in a Boys & Girls Club; or equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
  2. Minimum of 3-5 years of senior leadership experience managing youth programs or operations in a organization with multiple sites.
  3. Verified skills in program development and assessment; strong leadership, analytic and methodical in approach to problems, excellent judge of character, highly motivated and results driven.
  4. Experience with budget development; monitoring and reporting variances in revenues and expenditures.
  5. Experience with negotiating and reviewing contracts, insurance documents and other legal documents.
  6. Demonstrated leadership to coordinate and evaluate the efforts of staff in the accomplishment of program goals, set performance standards by observing behavior, providing objective feedback, and counseling and implementation of corrective actions as needed to mediate disputes and resolve conflicts. 
  7. Ability to work well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; exercise good judgment, political acumen, and thorough organizational and prioritization skills. 
  8. Excellent computer skills; proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience in scheduling and maintaining multiple calendars. 
  9. Aptitude to work well under pressure with multiple time constraints and changing deadlines. Must be able to work in an environment with shifting priorities and frequent interruptions. 
  10. Developed work ethic to be responsible, accountable; independently follow up, complete tasks, anticipate needs and meet deadlines in a professional manner with accuracy and on schedule.
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner. Verified oral and written command of the English language.
  12. Aptitude to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  13. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, organize time efficiently, judge information and meet deadlines and to initiate and track routine independent short and long range projects to completion.
  14. Demonstrated presentation skills and experience conducting training, workshops and seminars to various audiences. Knowledge of coaching strategies, and program evaluation techniques.
