WHY THE GEORGE...
The George is a 56-room upscale, boutique hotel located at 615 Front Street Georgetown, SC (corner of Front & Queen Streets) that began development in February 2022 and opened March 2024 . The property will offer visitors and locals an unparalleled waterfront dining and lodging experience at an unsurpassed location within the charming historic, colonial seaport town of Georgetown, South Carolina. In addition to fifty-six rooms and suites, the property will offer a full-service restaurant and bar on the Front Street side of the property, and will feature waterfront event space, a waterfront bar and activity lawn for lounging, games, and events. The George will have direct marina access affording boaters and opportunity to enjoy the hotels’ amenities and guests an opportunity to access charter vessels for fishing, eco-excursions, and sailing in the Winyah Bay and surrounding areas.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the job include, but are not limited to:
- Wash, clean, dry, and fold numerous hotel linen and laundry items.
- Sort the laundry items according to material and color.
- Arrange clothes in the laundry room as per the specifications
- Wrap the laundry items for pickup or delivery.
- Update the laundry list and record it on a daily basis.
- Assist fellow laundry attendants in loading and unloading laundry washers and dryers.
- Maintain inventory level which includes detergents, sewing machines, detergent cakes, and others. Keep it updated on a regular basis.
- Provide various other laundry services if required.
- Actively participate in cleanliness of the laundry room and appropriate facilities.
- Maintain knowledge of hotel products, services, and facilities.
- Communicate effectively with leaders and team members in regard to day-to-day operations.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Strive to maintain personal, staff and guest safety. Reporting any incidents in a timely manner.
Requirements
Abilities
- Previous employment in similar position or equivalent preferred.
- Prior cleaning or laundry experience is preferred.
- Good communication and multitasking skills.
- Ability to assist in all housekeeping roles.
- Ability to remain calm in various situations, use sound judgement and effectively solve problems.
Skills
- Organization, multitasking and project skills.
- Team player.
- Knowledge of cleanliness standards.
- Must have mobility to walk through the front and back of the hotel, up and down stairs.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work an average of 35 hours a week
- Ability to stand and walk 90% of the time
- Occasional stooping, kneeling or crawling
- Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 40 lbs
- Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps
- Constant receiving detailed information through oral and written communication
- Constant talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word in English
