Operations Manager 

The Role:
 

The Operations Manager will support the Head of Implementation in planning, monitoring, and delivering a long-term, large-scale project. They will lead the implementation of various project activities, including data collection and analysis to support monitoring and evaluation. The role ensures that implementation aligns with the project’s strategic objectives and British Council internal policies.

 

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:  

 

Project Management 

  • Leads and monitors the implementation of assigned project components, ensuring quality through close coordination with the Technical Lead.
  • Manages an academic and administrative team to deliver and monitor the project in alignment with corporate policies and stakeholder requirements.
  • Prepares progress and technical reports in line with stakeholder-agreed guidelines and deadlines.

 

Relationship & Stakeholder Management

  • Maintains effective communication and engagement with stakeholders, ensuring their needs and expectations are addressed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manages relationships with delivery partners, overseeing procurement and contracting processes to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Holds suppliers to account for delivering against contract.

 

Strategy and/or Planning

  • Creates a detailed implementation plan integrating schedule of activities, deliverables, financial resources, quality management, communications plan, risk assessment and mitigation, indicators, among others.
  • Works hand in hand with the Head of Implementation to make strategic decisions, thus mitigating possible risks during the implementation. 
  • Liaises effectively with different units across the organisation to ensure coordination, alignment, and efficient implementation of project activities, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

 

Commercial and Financial Management

  • Monitors project budget, expenditure, and cash flow, ensuring alignment with stakeholder requirements and British Council policies.
  • Supervises and approves financial reports, including supporting documents for external partners, in coordination with the Head of Implementation.
  • Ensures compliance with stakeholder and British Council policies, including detailed withholding tax reports to DIAN.

 

Requirements of the role:

  • Five (5) years of professional experience in large-scale projects, preferably in the educational or social sectors.
  • First degree or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Experience managing projects from start to finish and familiarity with project life-cycles.
  • Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.)
  • Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies.
  • Proficient in Excel, Access.
  • Understanding of procurement, evaluation and reporting requirements of projects.
  • Experience of managing stakeholders
  • Experience of using technology in project delivery.

 

Desirable:

  • Proven experience of managing project finances.
  • Good understanding and experience of supporting monitoring and evaluation
