Job Description:

The Contract Accounts Payable (AP) Lead will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the company's accounts payable function, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of invoices, payments, and expense reporting. This role will lead process improvements, automation initiatives, and compliance efforts, while also partnering with internal stakeholders to enhance financial operations. The ideal candidate will bring “hands on”, have strong leadership experience, operational expertise, and a problem-solving mindset to drive efficiency and strengthen controls within AP.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Oversee the end-to-end accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.

  • Manage and develop the AP team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Implement process efficiencies and automation initiatives to enhance the AP function, including invoice processing and payment workflows.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements related to AP transactions.

  • Collaborate with procurement, finance, and business units to streamline vendor onboarding, payment terms, and approval processes.

  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and resolve any payment issues/discrepancies and manage vendor payment terms and inquiries.

  • Oversee the expense reporting process, ensuring compliance with company policies and best practices.

  • Lead month-end and year-end AP close activities, including reconciliations and reporting.

  • Support external audits and internal reviews by providing necessary AP documentation and analysis.

  • Drive data analytics and reporting to provide insights on AP trends, cash flow impact, and opportunities for cost savings.

  • Partner with finance leadership to ensure alignment between AP processes and overall financial strategies.

  • Responsible for maintaining T&E, Credit card, Purchase, and Account payable policies.

  • Perform other TransMedics duties and tasks as required.

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required).

  • 10+ years of experience in accounts payable or related finance functions, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of AP processes, internal controls, and compliance requirements.

  • Advanced understanding of accounting principles.

  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and AP automation tools.

  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and drive process improvements.

  • Multi-company and multi-currency environment would be advantageous.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in the healthcare, life sciences, or medical technology industry.

  • Familiarity with SOX compliance and other regulatory requirements.

  • Proven track record of driving process improvements and automation in AP functions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and actionable manner.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
