Elementary Teacher (Reading) - Oakdale Elementary en Warrick County School Corporation

Primary purpose:

Primary purpose is to support student literacy through the Indiana Department of Education’s Science of Reading initiative. Implement evidence-based reading strategies to help students develop strong foundational skills in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Passion for literacy and expertise in structured literacy approaches required. Science of Reading certification/endorsement or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities:
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
A. Teaches reading to students in a small group setting, utilizing course of study adopted by the WCSC Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
B. Instructs students in citizenship.
C. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
D. Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
E. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
F. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
G.  Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
H. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
Qualifications:
A.  Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from accredited university.
B.  Indiana Teaching Certificate.
C.  Experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring.
