Food Service Manager:
GENERAL SUMMARY
Performs routine tasks associated with food preparation, serving, and clean up. Also, may include operating a cash register (POS) for sales. The work involves preparing breakfast and lunch for school populations. Operate various industrial kitchen equipment used in food preparation. Maintain sanitary working areas. Document records of food temperatures and food amounts. Maintain inventories in refrigerated, supply, dry storage and freezers. Maintain linens used in the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
GENERAL
Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
Performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.
Participates in extracurricular activities and/or serves on designated committees.
Demonstrates loyalty to the school, school system and administrators.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs duties assigned by lead person and School Food Service manager.
Prepares quality meals.
Serves others in a courteous manner.
Prepares meals according to recipes and menus.
Handles uncooked and unprepared foods safely.
Operates kitchen equipment efficiently: pots and pans, can openers, wrapping food, etc.
Cleans and sanitizes food preparation areas and sinks prior to using.
Transports food products from refrigerators, dry storage areas, supply areas, coolers, and freezers.
Places and removes food items into and from ovens, move cooked foods to holding cabinets or serving lines
Opens containers, stores food in containers or on racks.
Takes temperatures of food items and monitors and maintains required temperatures.
Serves meals by performing tasks such as setting up serving line to be ready prior to customers entering for service
Keeps serving line replenished as needed to ensure all items are available to all customers at all times.
Stores food items used in food preparation by performing tasks such as putting on shelves in dry storage area,
coolers, and freezer.
providing accurate change, recording accurate sales in the POS system, and other related duties.
countertops, operating washer and dryer, cleaning bathrooms, discarding trash to dumpsters, working with
various chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing, and performing other related duties.
Performing other duties assigned by unit manager or lead person.
Wears uniforms and slip resistant shoes with closed toes and heels and hairnet at all times as required.
Works required hours for 183 days and 6-6.5 hours depending on location and does required breakfast detail
once a month.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma; Safe Food Certification. Prior restaurant management or school cafeteria management is preferred.
Ability to: read and write; follow oral and written communications; learn and follow prescribed preparation, meal service, clean up, sanitation and safety methods; inventory and record information accurately; to wear food handler gloves; to lift and move 25-50 pounds repetitively; emotional and physical fitness for assigned duties; personal standards of appearance and dress compatible with those standards adopted by Greenwood School District 52 Food Service Programs.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and simple correspondence. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees and/or students.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
