Must demonstrate knowledge and abilities to do plumbing and heating repairs, minor building equipment repairs and adjustments. Included is knowledge and use of tools.
Must have experience and knowledge in all phases of commercial custodial cleaning.
Must demonstrate ability in following: Good written and verbal communications skills; good computer skills; good organizational skills; ability to see projects through from beginning to end; good follow-up skills; good record keeping skills; good public relation skills with building staff and visitors; good leadership skills.
Must have ability to perform physical tasks required by this position including the ability to lift heavy objects, ability to climb a ladder or work at heights up to 50 feet and ability to work outdoors in hot and/or cold conditions.
Applicants will be required to take objective written and hands-on skills tests relating to the various activities of this position. Applicants will also be required to take a mechanical test as well. The purposes of these tests are to demonstrate the basic knowledge of the applicant.
Because of the nature of the work, this employee must be willing to improve skills necessary for the routine activities of the position and to develop the skills and knowledge for the position.
Directly responsible to the working foreman and/or building principal when school is in session and to the Supervisor of Operations at all other times.
Perform the assigned work schedule following approved custodial job procedures.
Correct minor maintenance problems in the building.
Perform assigned duties in the care of grounds, including mowing of grass in areas immediately around the building and other areas not accessible to large machinery, removal of snow and ice from walks and steps, and care of flowers and shrubbery.
Maintain a neat and clean uniform when on duty.
Project a positive image for the school district with all district employees, students and community members.
Maintain proper and neat storage areas for custodial supplies, equipment and tools assigned to the building.
Maintain building and grounds security by opening/closing the building each school day and during special events as directed.
Assist the principal or building foreman in performing custodial jobs when requested.
Maintain good sanitary conditions of building facilities.
Make arrangements for use of school facilities by non-school groups as indicated on building use requests.
Cooperate, in a pleasant and courteous manner, with all groups that use the building after regular school hours.
Report problems noted in the building to the foreman or principal.
Must be familiar with the proper operation and care of custodial mechanical equipment.
Must have knowledge of institution cleaning procedures.
Maintain playground equipment in safe and good operating condition.
Shall be willing to work on call as needed for emergency repairs, overtime, or special needs falling outside the normal work hours.
Shall perform other duties as assigned.

The working leader is responsible for keeping the assigned building(s) clean, safe, functional and secure in accordance with the prescribed codes and established district policies and standards. A working leader must maintain all assigned building(s) in a state of operational excellence such that they present no interruptions, distractions, or obstacles to the education program.
