 The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency providing land use planning; stewardship of natural, cultural, and historic resources; and delivery of recreation programs to the communities it serves. The Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division of the M-NCPPC is seeking a Tennis Assistant Facility Manager for Watkins and Cosca Tennis Bubbles! Our ideal candidate will provide facility management, maintenance, and operation of a tennis facility under general supervision. The selected candidate will participate in program planning, facility management and general administration, applying technical expertise in the development and management of revenue generating and diverse sports and recreation programs for all ages. The position’s work assignment often includes special projects requiring a high degree of specialized and comprehensive knowledge and expertise. 

The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $57,062 to $101,062 at the Recreation Parks Facility Manger I level with an excellent benefits package including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, employer's retirement plan, and work-life programs. The hiring range for this position will be $57,062 to midpoint of the advertised salary range and will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. 

Position Duties

  • Assist in the management of the operations of the tennis bubbles, developing and implementing procedures, goals and objectives. 
  • Participates in planning, organizing, and implementing comprehensive tennis program planning for a diverse population with a focus on a balance of programming for community and revenue generation. 
  • Supervises intermittent staff which entails but is not limited to recruitment, selecting, training, and evaluating. Also, plans, schedules, and assigns work for staff. Counselling staff on opportunities to improve performance and initiates disciplinary action when vital. 
  • Works with multiple divisions and maintenance personnel to ensure that the facility’s systems are operating properly and supervises staff on the day-to-day maintenance and repair of the facilities. Actively coordinates maintenance, and repairs. 
  • Monitors the customer service experience of the facility, making sure staff are properly trained, setting a positive example for employees, and ensuring customers are treated in a timely, professional, and respectful manner. 
  • Participates in the managing of the facility’s operating budget, with an emphasis on revenue producing programming. Assist with preparing annual projections, financial reports and monitors revenues and expenditures throughout the fiscal year to ensure the facility reaches budgeting expectations. 
  • Assists in the development of marketing strategies for programs to promote attendance and facility usage.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management, Facility Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field.
  2. One (1) year of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, tennis, aquatics, ice rinks).
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years.
  4. Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.
  5. Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics).
  6. Pass Commission medical exam.


Working Conditions 

Works in an assigned facility that operates seven days per week. Works extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Responds to emergency situations as required. Requires regular contact with the general public. Responds to citizens’ complaints. On-call 24 hours. Attends meetings and programs at various facilities.
