Machinist

MSRC is seeking a Senior Machinist to support the Material Science and Engineering Division of Propulsion and Structures Technology. This position supports a job shop atmosphere supporting primarily a manual machine shop. This position is located in Huntsville, AL at Redstone, Arsenal.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate directly with customers and interpret engineering drawings to manufacture custom precision components, supporting diverse projects in a fast-paced, constantly evolving R&D environment with minimal supervision.
• Operate a variety of machine tools for fabrication tasks, including (but not limited to) band saws, lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, hand tools, precision measuring equipment, general machine shop tools, and tool grinders.
• Set up and operate multi-purpose computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machines to perform any combination of machining operations.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma along with a degree in machine tool technology and/or credentials/experience verifying formal training in machining technology.
• 15+ years of precision machining experience programming, setup and operation of manual and CNC lathes/mills. 
• Prior experience reading engineering drawings and CAD models to produce unique precision parts.
• Prior experience in programing, setup, and operation of a variety of machines including 3-axis CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual mills and manual lathes.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Current or ability to obtain A&E Handeler certification.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred:

• 15+ years of manual machining experience
• CNC Lathe and CNC Mill conversational programing experience.
• Experience with Mastercam software for programming CNC machines.
• Experience with Solidworks software.
• Experience with and knowledge of ongoing missile development hardware.
• Experience with large complex components.

• Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
