Primary Role
The Meter Reader will read customer meters and perform various other functions related to customer billing, collections, and District operations.
Key Accountabilities
- Utilize the electronic customer database and meter reading systems.
- Load hand-held meter reading equipment daily.
- Accurately read customer meters on different routes and transmit the reads for billing daily.
- Record any stopped meters, broken meter, dials, boxes, etc. immediately.
- Conduct minor meter repair and change-outs, as well as meter box repair as needed.
- Download and upload daily meter-reading routes.
- Required to take after-hours call as needed by the District after D1 certification requirement met.
- Work with distribution employees to repair, replace, or install water services, mains hydrants valves, etc.
- Performs other similar work and projects as needed by the district and any other work as necessary or to satisfactorily complete the job to which has been assigned.
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge:
- Familiarity with any water-industry knowledge preferred.
- Water Distribution Certification Grade I, preferred.
- Must be able to obtain a D1 certification within 12 months of hire date.
- Skills:
- Position utilizes small hand tools and other tools necessary to complete job tasks.
- Drive a company vehicle. *Requires a valid CA Class C Driver's license with minimal moving violations.
- *Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
- *Requires normal physical and mechanical ability.
- *Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Understand basic computer functions, and able to adapt to meter reading technologies, and other computer applications.
Experience/Education
- This position requires a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Other
- This position reports to the Operations Supervisor.
