JOB SUMMARY: Keeps premises of organization in a clean and orderly condition. Cleans rooms, hallways, restrooms, public areas, and offices. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and waxes floors. Vacuums carpets, dusts furniture, washes windows, replenishes supplies, empties trash cans, and transports trash. Areas include Hospital, Nursing Home, Clinic and Wellness Center, including Physical Therapy. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleans and sanitizes patient or resident rooms and other assigned areas, to include offices and public areas.
- Cleans bathroom and basin
- Dusts furniture. Dusts and wet mops floors.
- Stocks bathroom with expendable supplies
- Cleans day room, nursing station, utility rooms, exam rooms and public areas.
- Performs terminal cleaning after patient or resident is discharged or transferred as stipulated in established department procedures.
Cleans assigned areas of the Hospital, Nursing Home, Clinic, Wellness Ctr.
- Cleans furniture, fixtures and surfaces.
- Cleans floor by dry or wet mopping, sweeping and disinfecting when necessary.
- Cleans carpeting by vacuuming and by shampooing when necessary
- Follows established cleaning schedule.
- Cleans walls, windows, doors and ceilings on a regular schedule.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles and removes trash to a designated collection area
Requirements
- Education – High School or equivalent preferred.
- Job Related skills – Ability to read, write and understand instructions in English. Knowledge of housekeeping devices and equipment desirable. Ability to maintain a clean working environment.

- Prior Work Experience - Entry level position
- Technical Training – None required.
- Physical and Mental Requirements -
- Position requires extended periods of walking and standing.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds and transporting up to 30 pounds on carts. Pushing and pulling of carts, bending, stooping and reaching in storing supplies and cleaning activities.
- The ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instructions and directions.
- Willingness to perform repetitive tasks on a continuous basis and perform tasks despite frequent interruptions with due consideration for clients, staff and visitors.
- Initiative and judgment involved in maintaining of assigned area in a clean orderly condition.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS
- Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potential infectious materials.
- Knowledge of all chemicals and cleaning agents necessary to complete the job.
- Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
- Follows MCHD Policies and Procedures and safety guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the department management staff.
