Job Description Summary

Are you ready to elevate your career in renewable energy? Bodangora Wind Farm, located near the picturesque town of Dubbo in NSW, is looking for a Lead Technician to join our team. With 33 GE 3.43-130 wind turbines generating enough power for approximately 49,000 homes annually, your role will be pivotal in sustaining this clean energy initiative.

Taking a Lead role in the resident site team, working at the forefront of renewable energy, maintaining and troubleshooting wind turbines at some of the most exciting and innovative sites in the country, including annual maintenance, retrofit works, major component exchange and fault finding.

The Lead Technician will also act as the State Nominated Electrical Supervisor (QTP), and Delegate to the High Voltage Operating Authority.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Nominated as the High Voltage Operating Authority delegate (HVOA’d) for the site
  • Perform high voltage switching operations according to site procedures as required including the holding of permits creating switching instruction and issuing permits
  • Follow GE manuals, specifications, and work instructions to perform assigned tasks and inspections
  • Have a working knowledge of electrical installation requirements provided in the following documents (as amended from time to time):
    • Plumbers, Gas Fitters and Electricians Act 1995
    • Electricity Safety (General) Regulations
    • Electricity Safety (Registration and Licensing) Regulations
    • AS/NZS 3000, Wiring Rules and all other standards applicable to your work
    • Managing Electrical Risks in the workplace Code of Practice
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the above documents and to the organisation’s SWMS, LOTO, associated EHS & QA/QC policies and procedures, call attention to fellow employees of unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and practices to their Manager, Supervisor, and EHS Manager/Coordinator.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) responsibilities for the state of New South Wales
  • Preparation of work programs for the timely servicing of assets and organise daily work plans for contractors
  • Conduct maintenance, fault finding, and high voltage switching operations as required
  • Participate in annual maintenance, retrofit works, major component exchanges, and fault finding
  • Use GE software tools to maintain reports and submit technical queries
  • Make a conformance or non-conformance decision upon completion of inspections
  • Report errors, violations, incidents, or problems immediately using GE reporting systems
  • Embrace a 37.5-hour work week, with opportunities for overtime as approved and participate in on-call rosters for after-hours or weekend work as directed
  • Carry out maintenance installation and repairs of the electrical apparatus reforming all maintenance functions related with electrical systems, and power generation distribution in line with safety operations and maintenance principles to guarantee the smooth functioning of the production facility for field operation work
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts and share lessons learnt, whilst leading and training site technicians as needed

Qualifications, Requirements & Competencies

  • As a minimum, hold a registered Workers License Electrical as either a Qualified supervisor (S) or Contractor (C) in the state of New South Wales
  • Required to be nominated as the Electrical Supervisor in accordance with the Registered Electrical Contactors license and hold the position as the Nominated Qualified Supervisor - Electrical on behalf of the company for the Bodangora NSW Site
  • Understanding of basic AC/DC electrical circuits and ability to T/S and conduct circuit analysis (24VDC, 166VDC, 120, 230, 400, 575, 690VAC)
  • Have a current High Voltage operating certificate or the ability to gain one and demonstrated previous experience in High Voltage switching and operations
  • Proficient in fault finding (electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Lead role
  • Demonstrated customer service attributes and team leadership experience in a similar role within the wind industry or in a large-scale industrial environment.
  • Proficient in using computer systems and tools for monitoring work and managing documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • A current unrestricted driver's license
  • Ability to complete physically demanding tasks at heights, comfortable with heights (you’ll be climbing turbines, so you’ve got to have a head for heights and a love for fresh air!)
