- Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance
- Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement if IEP objectives, etc.
- Assists students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher and effectively uses verbal, non-verbal, writing and listening skills
- Teaches and models school/classroom rules of behavior and upholds the student conduct code
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips
- Checks student work, as assigned by the teacher and encourages student creativity using music, art and play activities and helps develop activities that address the learning styles of each student
- Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance; avoids being intrusive; solves student concerns discreetly
- Supports a respectful and inclusive educational environment; helps students with having a wide range of maturity and developmental levels or with disabilities/ participates in appropriate peer group activities as directed
- Helps students with a wide range of developmental levels learn social skills and models appropriate, respectful behavior
- Helps students with their clothing, snack-time routine, toileting activities and hand-washing routines
- Helps keep program and storage areas orderly (e.g., stores equipment, shelves books, cleans spills, etc.), sanitizes equipment as directed
- Follows prescribed medical plans and/or assists students with personal hygiene care
- Takes precautions for student and staff safety and does not leave students unsupervised
- Watches for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g. profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc.); Intervenes and/or reports concerns to the teacher
- Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law
- Works with the teacher to address persistent behavior problems and carries out behavior improvement plant; charts student behavior as directed
- Oversees rest periods when applicable
- Completes paperwork accurately and verifies and correctly enters data
- Performs clerical work-related to classroom activities and these duties may include attendance reports, collection of money, duplication of materials and distribution and return of notices to home
- Respects personal privacy and maintains the confidentiality of privileged information
- Exercises self-control and perseverance when dealing with students
- Participates in staff meetings, in-service training and professional growth opportunities as assigned
- Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures
- Promotes a favorable image of the school

Salary Range: As per EGEA salary guide based on experience - $139.66-$190.32 per day

Reports To: Supervisor of Early Childhood and Building Principal as designated by the Superintendent
Purpose: Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students to meet instructional goals and objectives, to provide supplemental support to students and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties to enable them to make contributions to other aspects of the educational program.
