Position Description

The Enterprise Security Analyst III's scope of responsibility includes information security management at the enterprise level. This includes ensuring that necessary safeguards are present, operational, and effective. This position is expected to assist with training team members, lead and/or manage projects, and interface with users, vendors, or other stakeholders in providing operational support. Discretion and sound judgment is expected. Enterprise positions are restricted for use in central IT Division areas reporting to the institutional CIO and, as such, may interface with key IT leadership and/or other functional leadership from the Texas Tech University System institutions.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Assists in network security tasks such as; Firewalls, Endpoint Security Protection, Intrusion Prevention Systems, DNS Security, data loss prevention, encryption, etc.
  • Assists in installing, monitoring, and maintaining security-related applications and architectures.
  • Performs technical risk audits, and vulnerability assessments on information systems at all levels including network, system,application, and physical.
  • Works with each IT area to assist in the development and technical implementation of security measures.
  • Participates in campus projects to ensure security requirements are considered and met.
  • Responds to IT Security incidents promptly.
  • Coordinates with users (internal and vendors) to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations, vulnerability remediation, and programming changes.
  • Coordinates the implementation of computer and network security plans with agency personnel, and outside vendors.
  • Develops plans to maintain the availability of computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • Regulates/audits access to computer data files, ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of business critical information.
  • May assist in IT-related business continuity, disaster recovery planning, etc.
  • Trains users for best practice secure computing, and promotes security awareness through up-to-date informational sessions.
  • Perform penetration testing to meet regulatory, compliance and security assessment requirements.
  • Remains current with all licensure, certifications, and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.)
  • Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related area
  • Professional certifications related to information security including CISSP, any of the Cisco family, CISM, CYSA+, Security+, and SANS GIAC
  • Experience in one or more information security domains as defined by the ISC2 CISSP Common body of Knowledge (CBK), which currently includes: Access Control, Information security and risk management, application security, operations security, security architecture and design, physical and environmental security, telecommunications and network security, cryptography, legal regulations, compliance, and investigations
  • Experience in key areas within information technology (ex. application development, application support, software, operating systems, networking)
  • An understanding of various operating systems (ex. Windows, Macintosh OSX, and Unix/Linux) to include an understanding of system administration
  • Experience with databases (MSSQL, MYSQL, Oracle)
  • An understanding of networking and network protocols 
  • The ability to effectively communicate your ideas orally and in writing
  • Must be willing to work after hours and/or weekends when required and be part of an on call schedule as necessary
  • This position requires a very high level of proficiency in the theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge in computer system analysis, and software engineering related to information security.
