The Referral Specialist (RS) reports to the Community Engagement Manager (CEM) to assist with new referrals, communicating with community providers and referral sources to schedule initial assessments for case management services for adults and children with a mental health diagnosis. It is the responsibility of the referral specialist to process referrals according to the guidelines, ensure eligibility for services, provide detailed information regarding programs and referral processes. The referral specialist ensures that the client’s paperwork and pertinent information is transitioned smoothly to the Intake Specialist or designee and documentation is accurate and complete. Additionally, compliance with all state and federal regulations and adherence to all PCS policies and standards of practice are required.

Essential Duties
- Processes online/paper referrals within 5 days of receipt of the referral.
- Schedules all Intakes, 72-Hour and Intake 2 visits as requested per program and county guidelines for scheduling.
- Documents all referrals in electronic health record.
- Gathers Releases of Information and ensures the documents are complete and accurate.
- Provides clear, concise information to others in verbal, written, electronic and other communication formats.
- Answers phones, retrieves messages, transfers calls to appropriate staff in a professional and polite manner.
- Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA requirements.
- Meet and greet clients, visitors, and walk-in referrals in a professional and polite manner.
- Other duties as required by business operations.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s/Associate's Degree in Human Services or related course, preferred
- Experience in behavioral health working with adults, children, youth, and/or families, preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledgeable regarding community resources related to mental health and case management.
- Ability to work with all programs, be knowledgeable and provide support to program support staff, case managers, mentors, clinical staff and program managers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with coworkers
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Working knowledge of Microsoft, integrated software applications (i.e. electronic health records and payroll software systems), phone applications, and online resources.
- Valid Driver’s license, dependable transportation, and vehicle insurance.
Schedule:
- 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with occasional evenings
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Hagerstown, MD 21740: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
