LOCATION: Falls Church, VA; Hybrid (3 days onsite/2 days telework)
POSITION TIMING: Position requires candidate to obtain a DOJ Public Trust clearance which can take 4-6 weeks to process and must be complete prior to starting employement

The Cloud Architect SME will provide advanced technical leadership and subject matter expertise in cloud architecture, design, and implementation—primarily within Microsoft Azure environments. This role is responsible for developing secure and scalable cloud strategies, designing infrastructure solutions, ensuring compliance, and supporting mission and business objectives through innovative cloud technologies.
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the Azure Cloud Subject Matter Expert (SME) for architecture, design, implementation, and operations.
- Develop and maintain cloud strategies, architecture diagrams, and documentation aligned with organizational needs for data storage, networking, and security.
- Design and manage hybrid and multi-datacenter environments, including high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions using Azure Site Recovery (ASR).
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Azure DevOps, ARM templates, Terraform, and Git.
- Design, deploy, and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Automate system administration tasks with Azure Runbooks, PowerShell, and Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).
- Monitor and optimize system performance with Azure Monitor, Grafana, and related tools.
- Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and Azure Security Center (ASC) recommendations for security and compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable cloud solutions.
- Create, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical documentation, and executive-level presentations.
- Provide mentorship to engineering staff and enforce best practices for cloud implementation and operations.
- Demonstrate exceptional organizational and time management skills across complex, interdependent technical efforts.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
- 15+ years of experience in systems engineering or cloud infrastructure roles, including architecture and operations.
- 5+ years of direct experience with Microsoft Azure IaaS, PaaS, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Proficiency in deploying and managing Windows Server technologies across cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP), Nutanix, and physical environments.
- Deep understanding of cloud computing platforms, virtualization, networking, storage, and security best practices.
- Experience implementing automation, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code using PowerShell, ARM templates, and Terraform.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience briefing executive stakeholders.
- Ability to assess business challenges and propose cloud-based solutions that drive efficiency and performance improvements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate and/or Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
- Experience with Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS), including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, ADFS, and Certificate Authority management.
- Automation and scripting experience using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements in complex cloud environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field (or equivalent experience).
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Candidate must be able to function in general office environment
- The person in this position must have the ability to lift and move IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
