TxDOT's Fort Worth District is seeking individuals that are experienced in concrete structure repair and heavy equipment operations in the South Tarrant Maintenance Office. General Transportation Tech II: A17, $3,581.33 - $5,372.41 (Monthly)

General Transportation tech III: A18, $3793.41 - $5,921.25 (Monthly)

General Transportation II:

Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway
    markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mail box supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves
    equipment/tools, materials and products.
  • Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as
    required.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
  • Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and
    brush.
  • Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary
    broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various
    required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.
  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during
    emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

General Transportation III:

Performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: contract maintenance and material and process inspection; roadway maintenance and repair; operates light and heavy equipment; preventative and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties (including General Transportation Tech II essential duties):

  • May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.

  • Trains other employees.

  • Provides support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; and provides assistance to stranded motorists

  • Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.

  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway
    markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy
    asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various
    required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.
  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during
    emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
  • Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build
    and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

General Transportation II Experience: 1 year transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

General Transportation III Experience: 2 year transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" endorsement at the time of application or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within 90 calendar days from date of employment.

General Transportation Tech II:

Competencies:

  • Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and
    maintenance work
  • Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance and repair procedures
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
  • Using basic mathematical fundamentals
  • Operating light and heavy highway equipment
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
  • Follow verbal and written instructions

General Transportation Tech III (including General Transportation Tech II competencies):

  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external

Physical Requirements:

  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions

  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour

  • Subject to noise
  • Subject to vibration
  • Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
  • Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
  • Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc
  • Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
  • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
  • Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment

General Transportation Tech III:

Physical Requirements (including General Transportation Tech II physical requirements):

  • Subject to atmospheric conditions-fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation

  • Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another

  • Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
