The primary purpose of this role is to plan, direct, coordinate, scope, and estimate the successful completion of all asphalt projects for Blackjack Paving. The Asphalt Supervisor will participate in the conceptual development of all asphalt projects and oversee its organization, scheduling, and implementation so that the projects can be completed on time and within budget. Other duties include but are not limited to: evaluating and measuring sites and tracking and participating with client interactions and maintaining the project database. The Asphalt Supervisor will team with sales and the office as well as communicate with company management to supervise projects and maintain the integrity of the projects.
Responsibilities:- Manage project objectives, timelines, budgets, and financials to ensure quality control plans are in place for all asphalt jobs and plan work accordingly.
- Manages the accuracy and efficiency of schedule and subcontractors, including trucking.
- Assess and control risk of work proposed and to complete.
- Proactive communication with sales, scheduling, management, crews, subcontractors, and clients per company expectations; providing onsite direction as needed. Responding to all inquiries on a timely basis.
- Identify, manage, and control changes on assigned jobs, including developing change orders.
- Help develop, maintain and enforce safe work environment, enforce procedures, standards, rules, and regulations.
- Assists Operations Manager in analyzing plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to assist in the preparation of time, cost, materials, and labor estimates for all phases of the project.
- Liaison with other departments ensures all required deadlines support the project schedule.
- Coordinates plans and specifications with the sales and scheduling, clarifying discrepancies.
- Optimize operations procedures.
- Chooses techniques and defines construction means and methods.
- Coordinates with Operations Manager on hiring, building, developing, and overseeing all asphalt foreman and crews.
- Monitors all asphalt crews for hours worked weekly to ensure we remain on budget and are following hours of service regulations.
- Responsible for providing instructions to crews by completing the Dispatch sheet daily.
- Ensures timesheets and all logs are turned in timely and completed accurately.
- Ensures T-Sheets are verified, and Pavement Soft dailies are completed with accuracy.
- Use survey equipment to ensure proper grading and drainage.
- Ensure subgrade and base materials are laid to contract specifications.
- Observe asphalt and subgrade to determine potential quality control issues and apply necessary corrections. Specifically, identifying mix issues, drainage issues, finish and other quality concerns of the job.
- Ensure asphalt crews are utilizing proper PPE and help promote a culture of safety first always.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Preferred 5+ years of experience in asphalt management or comparable construction management role.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Be able to work overtime when required.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Communication skills, ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and the general public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials, and industry requirements.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Valid driver’s license required.
