About the Department
Under general supervision, the Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining clear, accurate, and consistent job descriptions across the agency. This role collaborates with the Human Resources compensation team, department managers, and subject matter experts to ensure job documentation is accurate, up to date, and reflects current roles and responsibilities.
The Technical Writer should possess strong writing, research, and collaboration skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with HR team members, managers, and subject matter experts to gather accurate information about job roles and responsibilities. Translates complex or technical details into clear, inclusive, and easy-to-understand job descriptions using plain language.
- Writes, edits, and maintains job descriptions to ensure they follow internal classification standards, salary structures, FLSA guidelines (exempt/non-exempt), and legal requirements.
- Ensures consistency in format, tone, and terminology across all job descriptions. Updates content regularly to reflect changes in job duties, audit findings, or position restructuring.
- Keeps job descriptions organized and up to date by tracking version history, following internal document procedures, and uploading them into the appropriate HR systems.

Position Duties
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Human Resources, Communications, English, Business, or a related field required. AND
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience writing or editing job descriptions or similar Human Resources content.
Preferred: - Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications, English, or a related field.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience writing or editing job descriptions or similar Human Resources content.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to identify key duties, qualifications, and responsibilities for a wide and unique variety of roles.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely using plain language.
- Skilled in editing content for tone, grammar, consistency, and inclusivity.
- Knowledge on how job content influences FLSA status (exempt/non-exempt) and compliance with employment laws.
- Ability to stay high standards for accuracy and attention to detail.
- Applies best practices for writing job descriptions that are inclusive and appealing to diverse candidates.
- Capable of gathering detailed job information through interviews, questionnaires, or reviewing existing documentation.
- Comfortable using HRIS platform and shared drives to store, track, and manage documents.
- Ability to manage multiple job descriptions at various stages of development while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow established policies and procedures.
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.

Minimum Qualifications
Position Type and Typical Hours Work:
Typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 pm.
Work Environment:
There are no major sources of discomfort. A normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions is provided. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
