About the Department
Reporting directly to Court and Probation Director, Assistant Director or CORE Facility Administrator, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Juvenile Probation Officers (JPO) for the Juvenile Justice Department. OPEN POSITION IS FOR THE TAYLOR, TX JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICE.
Position Duties
- Creates and maintains work schedules for Juvenile Probation Officers and case managers for essential coverage
- Provides training to officers and distributes assignments and duties
- Performs performance reviews, makes and recommends personnel changes within department parameters
- Conducts compliance checks in conjunction with the State of Texas guidelines
- Oversees daily responsibility of the JPOs to ensure proper case management
- Oversees and directs staff on coordinating face-to-face meetings for youth and families
- Serves as department liaison when collaborating with community services
- Attends court proceedings and provides recommendation on cases
- Reviews documentation and processes legal documents such as prosecutorial reviews, progress letters and social history reports for court proceedings
- Reviews reports and offers corrective guidance (monthly contact and case plan reports, SPARK Ladder and Developmental Relationship Tool)
- Collaborates with other Juvenile Services divisions regarding programs and initiatives
- Completes all daily documentation reports
- Performs duties associated with JPO I and II
- Assists with audits by providing documentation and insight
- Audits direct reports monthly to ensure compliance with required contacts, case plans and PACT assessments
- Coordinate Family Nights quarterly to support families
- Network with community partners for support with SPARK activities, Family Nights and other needs for families
- Attends all meetings and trainings as necessary
- Performs special duties as assigned
Case Manager Assignment
- Oversees assigned CORE & Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) staff
- Maintains compliance with organizational policies and procedures
- Ensures case management services adhere department standards, reducing risks and improving outcomes for youth
- Designs and refines case management programs to enhance service quality
- Provides trainings and reviews case management operations; ensures timely service delivery and resource allocation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Position involves performing non-violent physical restraint
- Position involves operating motor vehicles

- Position involves prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending and squatting
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment
- Continuous contact with persons accused or adjudicated of crimes
- Some travel between work sites as required
- May be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions)
IRREGULAR HOURS
- Serves on-call on a 24-hour basis
- Requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and/or weekend hours
- May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency
- Regular attendance is required

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)
- Two (2) years of full-time work experience in a juvenile supervision related field, including one (1) year of case management experience
- One (1) year of demonstrated senior or lead level experience
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a non-disqualifying criminal history per Texas Administrative Code Sections 344.200 and 344.400
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
- Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Probation Officer Certification
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Certification (CPR)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification (CPI)
- First Aid/AED Certification
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
- Valid Texas driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) year of supervisory experience
- Two (2) years of experience as a Juvenile Probation Officer
- Three (3) years of experience working with at-risk youth
