About the Department
Under the direct supervision of the Court Administrator, this position maintains a security station and/or patrols the Court Building to prevent unauthorized activity; assists in other security activities as assigned.
Position Duties
High school or GED equivalent is required and one (1) year of experience in a security related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete and pass a background check.
Additional Requirement:
- Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification within thirty (30) days from date of hire.
 - Must obtain and maintain certification in the use of non-lethal security equipment (i.e., handcuffs, O.C. Spray, etc. ) within six (6) months from date of hire.
 
Minimum Qualifications
- Guards and patrols Ak-Chin Court Building, to ensure that unauthorized persons do not enter; prevents vandalism to equipment, building and other property; reports any unusual activities to proper authorities; notifies the Fire Department in case of fire and Police Department in case of criminal activity.
 - Assists in security for weekday Court Hearings; makes periodic tours of the premises inspecting courtrooms, protection devices, fire control equipment and checking for any other irregularities; check that courtrooms doors are securely closed and locked and rechecks them on a periodic basis; checks all doors and windows to ensure that they are securely closed and locked.
 - Interacts with the general public, court officers, police, detention staff and other facility employees to exchange information or resolve problems.
 - Answers routine inquiries from the general public and provides other customer services as required.
 - Maintains various records and documents, prepares reports and may perform miscellaneous clerical, simple maintenance and comparable duties.
 - Operates metal detectors and x-ray screening machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects.
 - Expels unruly individuals and contacts Police personnel when appropriate.
 - Analyzes and responds to emergency situations, including medical emergencies.
 - Performs other job related duties that facilitate and/or enhance the operation of the Department as requested by the Court Administrator or Chief Judge.
 - Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
 
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of general Ak-Chin Indian Community criminal, civil, and juvenile court system policies, procedures, and operations.
 - Knowledge of general security and patrol procedures and practices.
 - Knowledge of the information needed in reports of incidents occurring during shift hours.
 - Ability to serve independently with little supervision and be qualified to carry and use chemical agents and other non-lethal defensive weapons.
 - Ability to prepare incident reports and document incidents.
 - Ability to handle and control any situation that requires immediate response.
 - Ability to exercise initiative, tact and good judgment in resolving security issues.
 - Ability to analyze and defuse volatile situations while maintaining a peaceful and cooperative atmosphere.
 - Ability to remain to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
 - Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other criminal justice/law enforcement departments/personnel, community members, other tribal organizations, and people from a variety of social-economic backgrounds.
 - Skill in using a variety of office equipment including telephone, copiers, and personal computer.
 - Skill in following oral and written instructions, guidelines and procedures.
 - Skill in understanding a variety of rules, regulations and procedures.
 - Skill in interpreting and assessing situations, issues and concerns.
 - Skill in listening well, and communicating effectively with Community Members, employees, and diverse members of the public having considerable variation in values and educational and cultural backgrounds.
 - Skill in composing/preparing simple records using correct English grammar.
