Salary: $57.3713 to $74.5821 (2 step range)

General Accountability:

Reporting to the General Counsel, this position is responsible for providing legal advice to various business units within the Agency. As the junior member of the legal team, Legal Counsel will lead on the negotiation and drafting of common Agency agreements, and will handle other legal and privacy matters as assigned by General Counsel. Legal Counsel will lead on the oversight of a contract management system, and will provide support to the Privacy Officer. Legal Counsel will have a basic understanding of all Agency operations, and a good understanding of those areas to which the Legal Counsel provides advice.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (JD or LLB) from an accredited school of law.
  • Membership, or eligibility for membership, with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • One to three years of related experience. Experience in an in-house setting or with health law is an asset. 

Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Knowledge of First Nations and Metis history in Saskatchewan, along with knowledge of Truth and Reconciliation, including the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive care for First Nations and Métis people.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently toward goals in a complex environment with multiple and changing demands and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently on routine or basic legal matters. Ability to identify and raise issues where additional research, guidance, or expertise is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Willingness to look for creative and practical solutions to complex legal issues.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn and grow their legal career. 
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and oversee numerous concurrent projects effectively.
