Position:  Educational Diagnostician

 

Location:  Lincoln County Schools Exceptional Children's Department

 

Terms of Contract:  10 Months, Full-Time, Benefit Eligible

 

Reports To:  Chief of Exceptional Children's Services, Lead Psychologist, Principal

 

Monthly Salary:  Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)

 

FLSA:  EXEMPT

 

Qualifications/Requirements:  Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.  Master’s Degree in Special Education or Psychology with 3 years teaching experience (preferred) or Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or Psychology plus 7 years teaching experience in a special education classroom.  Must have completed one class in assessment.  Knowledge of IDEA and North Carolina special education policies.

 

Goal:  Select and administer formal and informal assessments to assist a team in determining student eligibility for Exceptional Children’s Services according to federal and state regulations.  The Educational Diagnostician will conduct appropriate educational assessments and provide information in determining student’s strengths and challenges which can be used in educational planning. 

 

Duties:

  • Work collaboratively with psychologists, compliance specialists, and Exceptional Children’s teachers.
  • Demonstrate and understand ethical behavior required for administering educational assessments.
  • Be knowledgeable of testing instruments and updates.
  • Administer and score screening instruments, standardized tests, and criterion referenced instruments and share with appropriate psychologists.
  • Interpret and report information gathered during evaluations and observations. 
  • Participate in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team meetings as appropriate regarding interpretation of results of assessments.
  • Consult with parents concerning the educational needs of students as appropriate.
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of educational and Exceptional Children laws, rules, regulations, practices and trends. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the traits and characteristics of various disabilities.
  • Extensive maintenance of accurate records on a timely basis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Compile a variety of records, reports, and documentary forms for Special Education services on a timely basis.
  • Participate in problem solving meetings with lead EC staff for developing action plans for evaluations that fall outside of typical school settings.
  • Work cooperatively with lead EC staff and students’ school staff members to develop appropriate service goals and models as appropriate.
  • Must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, and flexible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead School Psychologist or Chief of Exceptional Children’s Services. 
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators
  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
  • Other duties as assigned
