16.51 hours per week.

LOCATION: Ellensburg High School

 

REPORTS TO: CTE Director/High School Principal

 

JOB SUMMARY:
Assisting classroom teachers in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students; monitoring and reporting student progress; assisting students in the wood shop; supervising the locker room during transition times; and performing other instructional support duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Tutoring individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the teacher; maintaining records of student progress.
  • Monitoring and reporting behavior of students according to approved procedures; reporting progress regarding student performance and behavior; checking and assisting students with lab work as necessary.
  • Assisting in overseeing students while in labs or the wood shop; providing for supplies inventory as necessary.
  • Supervising the locker room during transition times to ensure student safety and appropriate conduct.
  • Assisting students by providing proper examples, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Conferring, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
  • Assuring the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Directing group activities of students as assigned; assisting in supervising department field trips, emergency drills, and assemblies.
  • Attending regional and state events and helping supervise students.
  • Participating in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.

 Performing related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • New applicants and current employees out of classification:
  • AA (or higher) degree or completion of 2 years of secondary education

        (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits).

        ETS Test with a score of at least 461

 

  • Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 

        KNOWLEDGE OF:

 

  • Basic subjects taught in the District schools, including mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
  • Safe practices in classroom activities.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.

 

        ABILITY TO:

 

  • Engage with students to support mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
  • Learn child guidance principles and practices.
  • Communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and staff.
  • Perform routine clerical duties in support of classroom activities.
  • Print and write legibly.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Learn procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn to apply and explain policies and procedures related to school and program activities.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Monitor, observe and report student’s behavior according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Operate instructional and office equipment.
