Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic supports US Army Reserve Forces by performing field-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of tactical and non-tactical equipment, including light wheeled vehicles, tracked vehicles, tractor trailers, generators, and military engineer equipment. This role involves conducting Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS), managing logistics and supply support, and ensuring proper equipment storage and accountability. The mechanic also provides technical assistance and training to military personnel, operates diesel and gasoline-powered equipment, and maintains systems such as power packs, transmissions, and fuel pumps, while adhering to US Army Reserve maintenance management principles
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct Technical Manual Level 10/20 Field Level Maintenance to include but not limited to Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) on all stored ground support equipment to include, but not limited to, light wheeled vehicles, tractor trailers, tracked vehicles, generators, Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV), and military engineer equipment.
Conduct logistics and supply support operations to enable efficient and effective maintenance operations.
Conduct equipment storage operations which includes property accountability functions and exercising of equipment when not in use.
Plan, manage, receive, store, and maintain, issue, and report equipment to meet client needs for exercise training. Equipment is both tactical and non-tactical, and includes automotive and construction equipment.
Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain a variety of heavy mobile equipment, such as: construction, industrial, combat, tactical, and powered support equipment.
Remove and repair major systems or components of equipment to include power packs, transmissions, transfers, gear reduction units, injector pumps, fuel pumps and alternators.
Make idle speed, current, brake, and transmission linkage adjustments.
Perform initial and in-process inspections, mechanical diagnostics and troubleshoot to localize defects and determine cause of malfunction, mechanical maintenance on defective parts, and minor body work.
Provide technical assistance to unit personnel.
Operate motor vehicles to perform the duties of this position.
Perform preventative maintenance checks and services.
Perform operator maintenance to include servicing vehicle braking systems, checking vehicle lights, and taking oil samples.
Operate a variety of diesel and gasoline powered equipment to include wheeled/track vehicles, and semi-trailer combinations up to 70 ton capacity.
Provide vehicle maintenance instruction, guidance and mentorship for military personnel and assigned shop maintenance support equipment.
Research and assist in requisitioning materials, parts and equipment necessary to perform vehicle maintenance/management mission
Education & Experience Requirements
EDUCATION:
High School graduate
EXPERIENCE:
At least 5 years of experience in Maintenance and Logistical Support Operations
Familiarity with the U.S. Army Reserve maintenance management principles and metrics
Ability to pass a Personnel Security Investigation
Ability to obtain a US government Common Access Card (CAC)
Basic computer skills
Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator’s license
Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) or be willing and able to obtain one within 90 days at the candidate’s expense
Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Demands
Some walking and standing required. You may have to lift and carry equipment (i.e. books, tools) weighing approximately 10-15 pounds.
Most of the work is performed in-doors
Work in the occupation involves making repetitive motions more than 1/3 of the time
Requires standing for periodically
Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel and bend
