SUMMARY
This is a highly technical position that is responsible to develop, coordinate, qualify, and supervise design, construction, functionality, buy-off and the molding process development of injection molded tools. In addition, will be required to diagnose, analyze, and recommend solutions for tooling/processing concerns. Position is responsible for surveying, developing, and maintaining good working relationships with tool vendors to assure quality standards and program timing are met. This position requires the ability to recommend and implement improvements to the tooling quality systems. Duties will include verifying part design, communicating technical information to suppliers, and supporting the development of injection mold tooling (buy-off for functionality to the quoted rate). This position will oversee tooling activity to a variety of tooling sources and encompasses such program duties as sampling, tool and process evaluation, and logistics management (materials/molds, shipping in and out). This position will require about 25% travel to local and over sea’s tooling sources.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze and interpret concepts and needs of programs to implement the injection molds and tooling required to support the development of new products and existing products
- Manage the design, construction, development and implementation into the manufacturing plant of secondary equipment such as sonic welders, heat stake machines, clip machines and end of arm tooling (etc.)
- Lead the process to lay out the best design for tools, gages and fixtures as well as any buyoff of check fixture gages
- Update standard tooling specification(s) as required for use in all tool builds
- Evaluate mold flow analysis and perform manufacturing feasibility studies and design reviews as necessary
- Provide support and direction to tooling vendors and molding suppliers
- Identify improvement opportunities for tooling and process
- Continuously improve all aspects of product development related to design, tool award, buy-off and installation at the manufacturing plant
- Responsible for quoting and implementation of all engineering changes as it relates to primary and secondary tools
- Responsible for supporting the new business quoting process with tooling cost and manufacturing process flow

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Associates Degree is a preferred as a minimum or equivalent educational background/experience
- Minimum 7 years relevant work experience including manufacturing processing/ tool work
- Development of tooling for Plastic Injection Interior and Exterior Automotive products
- Injection molding knowledge/expertise
- Knowledge of rotary two shot injection, Rim Molding and Gas assist would be a plus
- Ability to use Mold Flow for the development of injection mold design is a plus
- 3D CAD experience is a plus
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- Proven experience with handling multiple complex projects
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for Supplier/Customer interface
- Ability to work in a team environment.

- Familiarity with PC based programs (Windows, Excel, Word, PPT)
- Problem assessment and problem solving skills
