Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

The Geysers is the largest complex of geothermal power plants in the world. Calpine is the largest geothermal power producer in the US and one of the most reliable energy sources in California accounting for approximately one fifth of the green power produced in California. Job Responsibilities

This supervised position will allow for a geosciences student who is interested in a career in the power industry to apply and enhance their knowledge with regard to all aspects of the Geysers power plant and its resource-related operations. This position will require the individual to work a normal day shift. Limited overtime work (nights and weekends) may be required.  This job will be based at the Geysers power plant located at 10350 Socrates Mine Road, Middletown, CA 95461.

The 2026 summer intern project will be to digitize hardcopy, legacy information and data, to make them accessible to Calpine staff for on-going and future projects. The intern will also be tasked to obtain digital data from various sources and consolidate them in a geodatabase.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include some or all of the following:

  • The Geysers Geoscience Intern will assist the Resource Group by creating ArcGIS maps from legacy hard copy data
  • Digitizing selected well information now available in only hard copy form; and
  • GIS information usable on tablets in the Geysers steam field. The selected Geoscience intern will benefit from exposure to the operations of a well-established geothermal energy producer and familiarization with tablet software throughout the 35 square mile area of The Geysers geothermal

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in geoscience with course work in structural geology and field geology.
  • Must be actively enrolled in a Masters or above program, and working on an advanced degree with a defined interest in subsurface reservoir characterization and detailed field mapping experience over a large area. Demonstrated experience with digital geologic map making and a strong structural geology background are required.
  • The candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and digital mapping software. Knowledge of ArcGIS and AutoCAD is a plus. 
  • Work environment includes office setting as well as hiking in a rugged field setting with electrical power plants, pipelines, and wells.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. now and in the future for any company
  • The candidate should also be willing to work as a team with good writing and communication skills.
  • Intern must hold a valid driver’s license, and have the ability to drive mountainous, winding, narrow roads. Work environment includes an office setting as well as outdoors in an industrial/power plant setting.
  • Strong work ethic and initiative
  • Good academic standing

This job will be based at The Geysers power plant near Middletown, California.

Work schedule is 4x10 (Monday – Thursday)

Salary Information

$25.00 to $37.00 per hour
