Summary/Objective: Develops, implements, and maintains company-wide safety programs to include job site safety, hazard management, fire/life safety, construction, industrial and environmental safety policies and programs. This person has the authority and responsibility to suspend unsafe job site operations in order to protect employees, the public, and property. This person may be asked represent GFT to federal agencies, local groups and organizations, professional associations, and other similar groups.
Requirements
Essential Job Functions:
- Oversees the development and implementation of all safety programs across the organization.
- Provides guidance to managers regarding safety issues and concerns.
- Ensures that OSHA program requirements and safety records are well maintained on each employee.
- Coordinates regional and branch-specific accident prevention programs.
- Plans and conducts safety training programs involving work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for petroleum, building materials, chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
- Reviews and analyzes safety trends; provides ad hoc relevant reporting to management and senior leadership based on loss runs and incident tracking.
- Produces training/education recommendations based on inspections and reports findings.
- Provides annual safety performance reporting to each branch and/or division.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with current OSHA and site-specific safety requirements and programs, by providing technical safety direction and management to support safety program and injury prevention efforts.
- Coordinates safety and accident prevention programs for the entire organization; supports and administers local branch and regional safety initiatives.
- Conducts safety inspections at company facilities and jobsites on an ongoing, random basis.
- Assist in accident and property investigation reporting as needed.
- Participate in daily, weekly and monthly meetings, complete safety reports and ensure all required field training is up to date and compliant with OSHA and Corporate standards.
- Other responsibilities include, but not limited to: Worker’s Compensation risk management, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) enforcement, and development of company-wide safety Policies and Procedures
- Works alongside local leadership to ensure all federal, state, & local safety regulations and rules are met.
- Submits any required reports to the appropriate regulatory agencies in a timely basis.
- Coordinates investigation activities with HR, insurance carriers, and outside legal team as needed.
- Monitors driver logs and CSA scores for violations and counsels and/or provides additional training as needed.
Required Education and Experience:
- Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of DOT rules and laws as well as the FMCSA clearinghouse processes and requirements
- Five plus years of previous HSE experience in a similar position, with measurable results.
- Required Experience and/or certifications: in HAZMAT, Safety, Electronic logs
- Preferred Experience and/or certifications: Worker's compensation, forklift, safety audits, CSA
Work Environment:
This job operates in a varied setting, between a professional office environment and being out on the field on-site at projects and construction builds. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines as well as a mobile phone. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

This position is occasionally active, and requires standing, walking, bending, and climbing up ladders and stairs. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This person must maintain a valid drivers’ license and be able to drive to branch locations on a regular basis.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, M-F.
Travel:
Regional travel is expected for this position, up to 50%.
