About the Role
The multi-disciplinary Engineering Services Team within the College of Science and Engineering are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to deliver high-quality technical solutions to support teaching and research. This hands-on role focuses on the design, construction, and maintenance of specialised mechanical systems and equipment across labs and workshops.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:
Design, build, and commission custom mechanical systems in collaboration with stakeholders.
Provide expert advice on equipment use, safety, and practical design considerations.
Prepare safety and compliance documentation, including risk assessments and certifications.
Liaise with external contractors and suppliers on technical matters.
Maintain, calibrate, and repair laboratory and workshop equipment.
Support administrative tasks including procurement and documentation.
Oversee safety systems in teaching labs and workshops.
About You
You will be a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical design and manufacturing processes. You will possess excellent communication and project coordination skills, along with well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities. Your capacity to apply sound technical judgment and collaborate effectively with academic and professional staff will be essential to delivering innovative, practical solutions in a dynamic teaching and research environment.
As the successful candidate, you will also demonstrate:
Proven experience in mechanical design using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), with a strong understanding of safety in design principles.
Sound knowledge of engineering manufacturing processes and materials.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
Experience in project scoping, planning, and delivery within a technical environment.
Mechanical trade skills and experience working in a multidisciplinary team (desirable).
