Description
The Director of Business Development will play a vital role in driving growth for Metro Ports while instilling and embodying our core company values. They are tasked with enhancing relationships with existing customers and growing the business throughout North America in line with the company’s strategic plans and key performance indicators.
The Director will nurture relationships with legacy customers, manage their accounts, ensure client satisfaction, and find ways to alleviate and minimize challenges. Building relationships with key stakeholders will be essential and such contributions will enhance customer retention, operational efficiency, and profitability.
The growth side of this role is focused on acquiring new customers, exploring new markets, and identifying strategic growth lanes. The Director will do so through networking, developing partnerships, and strategic planning with the goal of driving revenue growth and market share.
The Director must have a team first mindset and be able to work independently and as a part of a cross-functional team. They must have superior communication and time management skills, problem-solving abilities, negotiation tactics, a deep understanding of client needs, and the ability to onboard new customers.
Duties include:
- Directly responsible for maximizing the potential of existing Metro Ports facilities through customer retention, sales efforts, and critical analyses of operations.
- Collaborate with operational staff and management to ensure operations are modeled properly and key performance indicators are met.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with various industry stakeholders such as railroads, port authorities, agents, brokers, shippers, and 3PLs.
- Drive business retention, fulfillment of budgeted expectations, and ongoing growth of Metro Ports through detailed KPIs and with reference to Metro Port’s strategic plans.
- Communicate with customers to gain accurate indications regarding Customer Service Reviews and budgetary projections.
- Travel to visit prospects and customers, industry stakeholders, and to attend various trade shows with a purposeful vision of growth.
- Identify areas of dynamic growth, acquisitions, and joint ventures for review through industry insights, strategic relationships, and market dynamics.
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and best practices.
- Develop and manage the business development budget to ensure efficient resource allocation.
- Adjust strategies based on performance analysis and market feedback.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (MBA preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of experience within the maritime sector. Positions in business development, sales, operations, or related roles preferred.
- Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and driving business growth.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
