Bilingualism is required for this position, being part of a collaborative, national team. The candidate will handle and follow up on various local and national requests from clients and lawyers, some of whom only understand and communicate in English. This position also requires the candidate to be able to interact seamlessly with colleagues and lawyers in our offices across Canada, where English is the predominant language. As we estimate majority of the work required for this position must be performed in English, and to ensure that the employee in this position can perform their duties autonomously and effectively, candidates for this position must be able to understand and communicate appropriately in French and English both orally and in writing.
We are hiring a Bilingual Specialist, Business Deveopement to join our team in our Montréal office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of five to ten years of experience in marketing, business development, or communications, ideally within a major professional services organization, and will be responsible for supporting business development initiatives in the Québec region, coordinating proposals and client presentations, leading strategic planning for key clients, overseeing the onboarding of new team members, and ensuring the quality and consistency of all communications. As a Bilingual Specialist, Business Development, you will be:
- Provides support to Québec Region Clients & Markets, Senior Manager, and lawyers on client-ready presentations, BD initiatives, special projects and collaterals.
- Supports lawyers on business development pursuits.
- Works closely on marketing and business development initiatives from A to Z with the assigned partners as the Clients & Markets (“C&M”) Lead for these BD initiatives.
- Works with Research and Information Services to gather client/prospect and industry intelligence to assist lawyers, including RFP/proposal process, events, trips, and client meetings.
- Leads at least one or two Chambers Global and Chambers Canada submissions per year.
- Supports some National and Regional Industry Groups and Initiatives committees in their BD efforts as C&M Lead.
- Leads the C&M on-boarding initiatives for all new associates joining the firm in the Québec region presenting the Clients & Markets’ role, activities, business development tools (e.g. Client Connect) and advises on profile building and market involvement.
- Ensures high quality preparation and production of all materials by the C&M Québec Team while consistently applying the McCarthy Tétrault business brand and key messaging.
Priority Clients Program
- Acting as Clients & Markets Lead to provide strategic direction for the development of approach, initiatives and plans for Priority Clients under my responsibility. This includes:
- Organizing and leading strategic discussions and meetings with Relationship Partners and Clients’ Team to determine personalized best approach (CPDs, sponsorships, cross-selling opportunities, client-solutions, etc.) for each initiative under my responsibility;
- Working with the Research and Information team to gather and distill client intelligence to assist lawyers in the planning process;
- Create first drafts of plan from the information obtain and discussion with Lawyers;
- Overseeing and finalizing strategic plans for the client and/or initiative under my responsibility;
- Ensuring Plans and any relevant priority clients information are tracked in the Firm’s business development databases;
- Following-up with Lawyers on Plan and Action progress to ensure plan is executed on.
Proposal and Pitch Support
- When Proposal Team at capacity, acting as Proposal Lead on RFP and pitch efforts for the region of Québec :
- Working directly with Lawyers and members of the Clients and Markets team to draft RFPs, RFIs, EOIs, pitch materials and collateral;
- Organizing and leading kick-off meetings to determine win themes and proposal and pricing strategy;
- Leading and coordinating the response development for client reporting requests, including liaising with diverse firm stakeholders such as Finance, Inclusion Office, HR, IT, and more.
- Create first drafts using internal content and tools;
- Overseeing and finalizing client-ready RFPs and proposals (including production using our internal print shop and/or submission via procurement sites);
- Ensuring RFPs, proposals and pitches are tracked in the Firm’s business development databases.
- Supporting lawyers with time-sensitive client requests for Firm credentials.
- Providing, to the Proposal Core team, support and guidance throughout the French translations process, working with our internal Translations team, and reviewing and revising French proposal content.
- Diarizing follow-ups with lawyers on proposal opportunities and tracking results in Firm databases.
As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, marketing or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant business experience, ideally with 2 years in a large professional services organization. OR
- Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications or related field, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant business experience, ideally with 5 years in a large professional services organization.
- Professional maturity including strong interpersonal skills, tact, discretion and autonomy.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills in French and English.
- Excellent organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities with challenging deadlines.
- Ability to complete designated tasks or projects in a systematic and logical way, with great attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable.
