The Mathematics Instructor will guide and direct the learning experiences of students through their knowledge, skills, and motivation in the field of mathematics. Members of the faculty agree to be accessible to students, other faculty, staff, and to those making inquiry to the College, and to assume a fair share of the total workload of the College as may be assigned. Instructional duties will include teaching topics in mathematics, using a variety of delivery modes: traditional classroom, online, hybrid, weekend, 8-week, 5-week, and evening. Additional faculty duties include assisting with student recruitment, participation on college committees, and performing support duties as assigned by the department chair. Class sessions may take place at various locations to include Sandhills Community College Pinehurst Campus, Hoke Center, and Moore and Hoke County high school campuses. Ability to integrate with other disciplines and support technology programs is a plus. Interviews for the position will include a teaching demonstration and a written assessment conducted in a computer environment.

A Mathematics Instructor will:
Provide effective and high quality instruction using multiple modes of teaching and learning to include online, hybrid, and face-to-face, etc., based on department needs.
Teach a variety of mathematics pre-curriculum and curriculum courses based on department needs.
Create an academic environment that is open and encouraging to all students.
Exhibit an appropriate depth and breadth of knowledge related to the discipline of study and show continuous growth by engaging in current/relevant forms of professional development and engagement with others in the immediate and related discipline (e.g., participation in professional meetings and professional development).
Show organized expectations for learning and academic achievement that are clearly documented in each course syllabus, and clearly communicate those expectations to students.
Integrate a variety of teaching and learning approaches that are designed to respond to the diverse experiences of students in classes, and project a positive attitude about each student’s ability to learn.
Uphold and model professional behavior to include the best scholarly and ethical standards.
Maintain accurate academic and professional records and reports in a timely fashion (e.g., POs, Travel Authorization Requests, Travel Reimbursement Requests, Field Trip Forms, Intensive/Non-Intensive Review Reports, Syllabi Submission, 10% rosters/E dates/LDAs/Final Grades, etc.).
Support student learning outside of class.
Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
Support the Mathematics Department and the college in the fulfillment of its mission.
Assist in program and curriculum review, revision, and development.
Maintain positive and professional interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration at the college.
Participate in professional development activities to keep up with innovative practices that improve teaching and learning.
Support the Mathematics Department and the college by participating in faculty assembly/governance/leadership, committee involvement/service, and faculty development specifically outside of one’s discipline.
Respond to emails in a timely and professional fashion.
Seek opportunities for professional growth specific to instruction (e.g., traditional-delivery course design, hybrid/online course design, curriculum design, classroom management)
Remain available, responsive, and approachable while working with students.
Demonstrate respect for students as individuals; this includes respecting the confidentiality of information shared while interacting.
Maintain knowledge and awareness of SCC policies/procedures and incorporate those policies/procedures in records/reports in a timely manner (e.g., processing withdrawal forms per two-week policy up until the start of final exams).
Treat others with dignity and respect and be committed to the highest standards of conduct and decency. Discourage any form of harassment, bullying, and/or abrasive behavior directed at colleagues, students, and campus visitors. Support open expression and diversity, and be courteous, sensitive, and respectful to others.

Minimum Qualifications
Required education and experience: [Indicate requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity]
Master's degree or higher in Mathematics, a Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics Education with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, or a Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in Mathematics is required.
Preferred education and experience: [Indicate requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity]
Prior community college teaching experience is preferred.
