SARA’s Artificial Perception & Threat Awareness (APTA) division in Cypress, CA is looking for an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative Part-Time Senior Electrical Design Engineer to push the limits of edge processing on projects that address advanced product development, RF and acoustic sensors on moving platforms, and directed energy (RF or laser) diagnostic systems. As part of APTA, you will contribute across the entire program lifecycle, supporting activities in internal research and development (R&D), product development, and field testing. Working alongside the best in the industry, multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of analog, digital, and RF engineering—developing ruggedized hardware for fielded military and defense applications that demand precision, reliability, and innovation.

Core Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, simulation, and validation of complex analog/digital/RF circuits for advanced data acquisition and control systems
- Develop board-level architectures integrating high-resolution A/D and D/A converters, power conditioning, low-noise amplifiers, and microprocessor subsystems
- Create and maintain schematics, PCB layouts, and design documentation using industry-standard tools
- Perform detailed circuit modeling, signal integrity, and thermal analysis to optimize system performance under harsh electromagnetic environments and environmental conditions
- Oversee prototype development, testing, and qualification, including EMI/EMC, vibration, and environmental testing
- Collaborate with embedded software, mechanical, and test engineers to ensure seamless system integration
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute to technical proposals and customer briefings
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 18+ years of experience in electrical or systems design for high-reliability or defense-grade electronics
- Proven expertise in analog and digital circuit design, board-level architecture, and data acquisition systems
- Experience with RF links, power systems, A/D and D/A design, and mixed-signal integration
- Skilled in simulation and modeling tools (e.g., SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, LabView)
- Proficiency with PCB design tools and strong documentation practices
- Experience with qualification testing for shock, vibration, temperature, and EMI/EMC compliance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to produce technical reports and customer presentations
- Motivated self-starter capable of working independently or in small collaborative teams
- U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for a DoD security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering
- 25+ years of professional engineering experience with a strong record of innovation and hands-on design
- Familiarity with defense and aerospace system development, including EMP hardening and ruggedization standards
- Experience leading design reviews and mentoring engineering teams
- Prior contributions to R&D programs involving sensor systems, data acquisition, or directed energy applications for DoD customers
- May require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds
- Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated; moderate physical hazards may exist
- U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance

Pay Range
Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $70 to $120 (hourly USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
