We began providing residential services to individuals living with disabilities in 1977, and in 1984 became the first non-governmental entity in Minnesota to offer waiver case management. By delivering exceptional client care and creating a work culture that celebrates the employees who turn our mission into action, Thomas Allen has grown to employ more than 600 people and provide contracted services for more than 20 counties across Minnesota. Annually, we deliver a wide variety of services to more than 10,000 individuals of all needs, abilities, and ages - from infants to elders. Our services include waiver case management, community living services, care coordination, respite care, and community-based residential programs.

FLSA Status: Full-time, Salary, Exempt
FTE: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
Hiring Range: $80,000- $98,000 USD Annually DOQ

Position Overview

The IT Manager manages the computer and network systems for Thomas Allen, including designing and integrating new solutions to address complex application and network issues and performance goals. This position also includes the hiring, training, development and management of IT staff, as well as managing IT vendor relationships. This role combines hands-on technical engineering with leadership responsibilities, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of our information systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Hire and trains IT staff.
  • Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the department.
  • Schedules, organizes, and assigns projects to members of the IT team.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
  • Works with and establishes relationships with third party vendors to secure services, contracts, and best pricing.
  • Developing and implementing IT policies and procedures
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues across multiple platforms and devices.
  • Provide hands-on support and guidance to IT staff during high-priority incidents or outages.
  • Develop and maintain standardized troubleshooting procedures and documentation for consistent issue resolution.
  • Monitor system performance to proactively detect and address potential issues before they impact operations.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for advanced troubleshooting and equipment repair.
  • Ensure timely resolution of support tickets
  • Upon growth, train and mentor IT team members in advanced troubleshooting techniques and tools.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools, logs, and remote access utilities to investigate and resolve user-reported problems.
  • Communicate effectively with non-technical staff to understand and address technical concerns clearly.
  • Ensure HIPAA and other compliance and security requirements are met.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field required; relevant certifications strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible IT experience, including hands-on systems administration, technical support, and infrastructure management.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare, social services, or compliance-regulated environment (e.g., HIPAA) is highly desirable.
  • Experience providing IT support in multi-site environments with both on-site and remote service needs.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, and Windows Server environments.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, SQL Database Management, VMWare, SAN Data Storage
  • Experience managing network infrastructure (including switching, routing, firewalls, and wireless systems).
  • Proficiency in managing device lifecycles, asset tracking, patching, and secure decommissioning.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex IT issues across hardware, software, and networks.
  •  Experience onboarding and training staff across departments; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Strong leadership qualities with potential to mentor junior IT team members as the department grows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to provide onsite support at all TAI locations —reliable transportation is required.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
