Oversee the clinical and professional content and execution for PD/VRD/GDP/AMP/PMP/RCS and other PD Special programs within Asia & Africa and PDTV programs within international. This is to ensure strict adherence to “Best Clinical Practice” in the training of doctors in the adoption of Phaco and other eyecare practices as the standard of care and first choice for cataract & other surgeries throughout the designated regions. 
Responsibilities include: providing critical direction and focus, with regard to program content and professional field execution, for both the designated Phaco Development PDS/VRDS Team and affiliated personnel. The position is to work with the PD/VRD Team to accelerate the number of ophthalmologists trained and the conversion rate from ECCE/SICS to Phaco, 20G, Quality MIVS procedures as measured by quality and quantity of new procedures.

 

This position manages, directs, coordinates and conducts all activities related to training of Alcon’s “best practice” surgical applications. This will include but is not limited to; O.R. Surgical Consultation (demand creation), adoption of advanced technologies (IOL's, Phaco Systems, VR systems,VES, Cutting Instruments), KOL/FOL development, Center of Excellence Training Center development, cataract & VR market analysis, Phaco Development Strategy Execution, Phaco Development Marketing and Promotional SOV activities at Congresses, Symposiums and special events.

 

Conscientious and consistent modeling of best clinical and professional consultation in cooperation with the local sales/marketing is critical to this position.


Major Accountabilities
1.  Devise, plan, coordinate and implement Phaco Development initiatives to accelerate the number of ophthalmologist trained to provide quality Phaco & VR surgery, to increase the overall number of procedure conversions from ECCE/SICS to Phaco & quality 20G , MIVS procedures.
2.  Lead; organize all programs in co-ordination with PD international Training Manager to train the PD/VRD team their functional competency Assessments ( PD - ADP), affiliated personnel, trainees, and instructors, on-site consultants in strictly executing the Alcon Phaco Development Clinical "Best Practices", SOP and PD/VRD strategy in the area of responsibility.
3.  Implement processes and execute plans with the PD/VRD team and local Surgical Marketing/Sales to develop “SOV Programs” at key Congresses, Symposiums and Special Events. Ensure all Alcon Phaco development Centers of Excellence are adhering to the program SOP. The focus is to accelerate the development of surgeons and hospitals that are currently performing ECCE/SICS, using conventional technology products (PMMA), using other conventional/Traditional products.
4.  Identification and development of “KOL's and FOL's” to act as Phaco Development/VR Development/Glaucoma Development Instructors, onsite-consultants and champions for the hands-on training of ophthalmologists. Ensure program standardization. Create and maximize SOV activities to educate and training surgeons VES and Cutting Instruments as the standard of care throughout the assigned geography.
5.  Create and maximize opportunities to partner and influence teaching institutions, professional organizations and NGO based Phaco training programs in the quantity and quality of ophthalmologists trained and their Phaco adoption rate in the assigned region

 

6.  Advance processes to ensure a transfer of skills based on sound “technical skills” as well as keen observation. Ensure key reporting tools, data collection and surgical observation forms, are being taught to PDS's and affiliated personnel. Develop ongoing mechanisms for disseminating information. specialty courses such as "Managing Complicated Cases" etc
7.  Work collaboratively, daily, with internal surgical team to develop “core skills” for Professional Consultative O.R. and broader Surgical Skills transfer, through modeling, coaching and teaching the PDS team and affiliate personnel are a central responsibility. Focus on differentiating the level of skills and resources of the Alcon PD and Surgical Teams. This is through by properly consulting and demonstrating products within the operating room and hospital setting.
8.  Any other Special project assigned by company time to time.

Ideal Background

 

Education: 
Post Graduate Ophthalmology degree, with strong communication skills and language proficiency or at least 5 years of related education and work experience within ophthalmology

 

Languages: 
English, Hindi

 

Experience: 
Minimum Qualification – Ophthalmologist from a recognized institution with Surgical 
Phaco Development or Ophthalmic Surgical Experience. 
Preferred Qualification – 1 to 2 years post-degree clinical experience with minimum one year experience with Hospital based Surgical and Clinical Ophthalmology practice experience.
