Position
This position is a part-time appointment to teach a 3-credit course in the Master of Arts in Illustration program during the spring 2024 semester.
Job Description
The instructor hired will teach the spring 2026 course ‘Creative Writing for Illustrators’ (GLA 5511). This course will introduce students to multiple ways to tell stories, encouraging them to develop a personal voice. The class will focus on students developing their personal writing through multiple projects across genres, for the purpose of applying story text to their artwork and vice-versa. This course will also prepare students to navigate the publishing process. This course complements the MA Studio II class.
In addition to teaching, all part-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the program and college.
About the Master of Arts in Illustration Program
All students in this course are enrolled in MICA’s Master of Arts in Illustration, a one-year program for those interested in a career in illustration or in refining their existing illustration practice. The program is an immersion in the field with a focus on studio work, professional practices, and portfolio-building, and prepares students to both freelance and to apply to competitive MFA programs.

Required Qualifications
· BFA degree in creative writing or a related discipline
· Experience teaching writing in a college setting
Preferred Qualifications
· MFA degree in creative writing or a related disciplines
· Experience teaching creative writing as the instructor of record in a college setting
· A strong record of professional achievement as a writer

Physical demands and work environment:
· Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position)
· Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
· Required training: Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (Additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule.)
