Title: Health Technician (Location TBD)
Schedule: 7 hours per day / 172 days per year
Reports to: Health Services Team Leader/School Nurse/Principal
Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The Health Technician serves as school nurse extenders by supporting the nurse in the health room, performing clerical functions and carrying out certain delegated nursing activities, as defined by the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.
Clerical Functions:
- Record and maintain student health data such as; daily log sheet, mandated screening results and student immunizations.
- Complete monthly reports.
- File health related information in health folder.
- Maintain inventory supplies.
- Develop bulletin board ideas.
Provide Nursing Assistance:
- Provides assistance with minor illness, first aid and emergency care and medication administration as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
- Arrange transportation for ill or injured students.
- Record health room activity on daily log sheet.
- Record medication administration.
Assist with Mandatory Screenings:
- Prepare rooms for screening activities.
- Set up equipment.
- Schedule and assist in getting students to the screening room.
- When certified, perform vision and hearing screenings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic first aid knowledge.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal directions.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
- At least one (1) year experience working with preschool or school age children preferred.
- Possession of valid Class C Kansas Driver’s License.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Must verify good health by passing a physical examination, which includes TB and drug test as required.
- Other duties as assigned by Team Leader/School Nurse/Principal.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
Terms of Employment: At Will. Salary to be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the USD 450 Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and this job description.
