DuraServ’s accounting team has more than tripled in the last six years, and we need a professional leader for this group. We are seeking an Assistant Controller, reporting to the Corporate Controller, who will oversee day-to-day management and review of our general accounting team. The ideal candidate is results-oriented with core accounting experience and will thrive in a dynamic, growth-oriented, entrepreneurial environment. 

Essential Functions 

  1. Reviewing and reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing journal entries 
  2. Performing account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and intercompany general ledger accounts  
  3. Managing the month-0end closing process 
  4. Maintaining the general ledger chart of accounts  
  5. Assisting with initial internal control evaluations  
  6. Posting monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals  
  7. Assisting with audit fieldwork for both operational and financial audits 
  8. Assist with other projects and analysis as needed 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  •  Effective analytical skills to sort, check, and verify accounting figures 
  •  Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment 
  •  Careful attention to detail 
  •  Good communication skills 
  •  Familiarity with enterprise business systems
  •  Strong Microsoft Office application knowledge (especially Excel) 
  •  Advanced accounting, finance, or administrative experience
  •  Public Accounting experience
  •  CPA is preferred 
  •  Knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles
  •  Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and priorities
  •  Microsoft Office suite experience with strong Excel skills
  •  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • This position supervises a small team of staff accountants.


Work Environment and Physical Demands 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times 
  • In office environment 

Travel 

  • This job requires no planned business travel.

Education and Experience 

  • Required Bachelor’s degree in accounting 
  • Master's degree (Preferred)
  • 7+ years working in accounting or related fields; public accounting a plus
  • Auditing, GL accounting, accounting systems, tax all relevant
  • Canadian accounting knowledge a plus (IFRS)
  • Strong past management experience with teams greater than 5
  • High working knowledge of ERP systems; Microsoft 365 and Prophix software experience a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills are required with the ability to articulate complex concepts into clear and concise content
  • Experience in technology platforms especially in the functions of configuration, reporting, dashboards, and data management
  • Willingness to learn current processes and implement new processes, controls, and automation
  • High comfortability with tech and online systems
