                            Position 1: Sunday - Thursday, 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

                            Position 2: Tuesday - Saturday, 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Designation:    Staff, 1.0 FTE, Benefit-eligible, considered Essential Staff

Travel:               Rare Travel

 

Position Summary:

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the overall repair, upkeep, and safety of the School buildings and systems. This includes responding to and resolving maintenance requests and emergencies, monitoring central heating plant operations, performing routine inspections, and executing preventative maintenance tasks. The Facilities Maintenance Technician also supports locksmithing needs, maintains accurate records, and coordinates with vendors as required. By providing reliable maintenance services, this role supports daily operations and contributes to a safe School campus for the entire community.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Preventative maintenance: Conduct regular checks and services on building equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, to ensure longevity and prevent costly repairs.
  • Repairs: Respond to work orders for repairs, including fixing leaks, patching and painting walls, replacing light fixtures, resolving electrical issues, and addressing minor plumbing problems.
  • Emergency response: Respond to and address urgent situations such as power outages, system failures, alarms, and floods, which may require on-call availability after hours.
  • Groundskeeping: Assist with basic exterior upkeep as needed, such as snow removal, trash removal, gutter cleaning, and maintaining the cleanliness of the building exterior.
  • Locksmith:
    • Install and repair locking hardware on a variety of locking devices, including door locks (cylindrical, mortise, rim).
    • Maintain door hardware: Service and replace related components such as latches, door checks, and panic bars to ensure they function properly.
  • Record-keeping: Utilize maintenance management systems to log, schedule, and document all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Vendor coordination: As needed, serve as the primary point of contact for external vendors and contractors, overseeing their work to ensure compliance with established standards and safety procedures.
  • Safety and compliance: Inspect the facility to identify and correct potential hazards, ensuring the building and systems comply with all relevant safety regulations.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Vocational training, a trade school certification, or an associate's degree in a related technical field are preferred.
  • Prior experience in facilities or building maintenance, 3+ years is preferred.
  • Facilities staff operate Hotchkiss vehicles and machinery; therefore, a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Successful completion of on-the-job training to build foundational skills is required upon employment, with additional training required as needed for further growth.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and small power equipment.
  • Excellent analytical skills to diagnose problems and determine effective solutions.
  • Dependability and responsiveness are essential, especially when handling emergency situations
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Able to work from ladders and lifts (training and safety equipment provided).
  • Able to communicate effectively with Facilities & Safety & Security Staff, via phone, radio, and email.

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent manual labor, including lifting (10–50 lbs), pushing/pulling (up to 150 lbs), and prolonged standing/walking.
  • Work in various conditions, including confined spaces, rooftop heights, and seasonal weather extremes.
  • Stand and walk for long periods of time. Able to traverse the campus and buildings on different types of terrain.
  • Must be able to stair climb, stand, and drive on and around campus.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
  • May be required to handle hazardous material in work areas.
  • Availability for emergency calls and rotating weekend/holiday shifts.
