Job Title: Technical Designer    Division: Production

Reports to: VP Production & Product Development

 

Position Overview:

The Tech Designer is responsible for transforming creative designs into technical specifications that can be used for production. This role works closely with designers, product developers, and manufacturers to ensure that designs are executed with precision, consistency, and quality. The Tech Designer will play a key role in ensuring that products meet fit, construction, and quality standards from prototype to final production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Design & Specifications:
  • Translate design sketches into detailed technical flats and specifications, including measurements, construction details, and material requirements.
  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs for each product, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all specifications.
  • Collaborate with design teams to provide feedback on the feasibility of designs in terms of fit, construction, and materials.
  • Fit & Construction:
  • Conduct fit sessions and evaluate garments on live models or mannequins, ensuring that they meet fit standards and design intent.
  • Communicate clear fit corrections, construction adjustments, and pattern revisions to vendors or in-house production teams.
  • Work closely with patternmakers and sample makers to achieve the best possible fit and functionality for each product.
  • Vendor Communication:
  • Serve as the main point of contact with vendors, providing them with clear direction and feedback regarding sample corrections and production requirements.
  • Manage the sample development process by reviewing samples, providing fit comments, and ensuring that changes are incorporated before mass production.
  • Collaborate with domestic and international vendors to ensure that production timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Quality Control:
  • Ensure that all products meet the company’s standards for quality, fit, and durability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to fit, construction, and fabrications during the development and pre-production stages.
  • Perform inspections on pre-production and production samples, ensuring they meet specifications before approval.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with the design, product development, and merchandising teams to ensure alignment on product vision, timing, and production goals.
  • Work closely with the production team to address any technical issues that arise during manufacturing and to ensure a smooth transition from design to production.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in technical design, ideally within apparel or fashion.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and grading.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, Adobe Illustrator, and other technical design tools.
  • Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems and tech pack creation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues and solutions to cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work within tight deadlines.
  • Hourly rate $40-$50 per hour depending on experience
  • Project till end of December depending on work load
