Analyst/Programmer 1/2/3 located in Juneau!

What You Will Be Doing:
This position is a flexibly staffed Analyst/Programmer 1/2/3 supporting & enhancing Department of Labor & Workforce Development systems. This position will primarily be focused on systems supporting the Unemployment Insurance program that provides a safety net to Alaskans who need assistance while they are between jobs. As a flexibly staffed Analyst/Programmer 1/2/3 position, this position includes professional development opportunities that are designed to help the incumbent progress from someone who has an aptitude to program (Analyst/Programmer 1) to a fully proficient developer (Analyst/Programmer 3). While the Department uses a variety of tools & programming languages, this position will be focused on learning & using Microsoft development tools such as C#, Visual Studio, .NET Framework, SQL Server, Windows Server, etc.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is located at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development building in Juneau, Alaska; the building is located along the waterfront, next to the Seawalk and Overstreet Park. Standup meetings are held several times per week to facilitate communications and keep staff up-to-date.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
- Computer Languages: Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
- Database Management Systems: Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
- Software Testing and Evaluation: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing software test and evaluation procedures.
- Systems Life Cycle: Knowledge of systems life cycle management concepts used to plan, develop, implement, operate, and maintain information systems.

Position Duties
Analyst/Programmer Level 1:
Successful completion of nine (9) semester hours of college-level coursework in computer languages or system analysis.
OR
Three months of actual computer programming experience.
OR
One year of work experience using a computer for analysis, including experience in the use of computer reporting languages, spreadsheets, or statistical packages.
Special Note:
An applicant who will complete the required college-level coursework within three (3) months of hire qualifies to apply for this job class. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon completion of the required college-level coursework and proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
Individual positions at each level in this class series may require expertise in a particular area of programming or analysis. Recruitment and selection will be on the basis of these requirements.
For some positions in these job classes, a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
Analyst/Programmer Level 2:
One year of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of the experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer system user support specialty.
Substitution:
A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for all of the required experience. An associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience.
Special Note:
An applicant who is considered under the Substitution above qualifies to apply for this job class IF the applicable coursework is completed within three (3) months of hire. Under this option, an applicant may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Minimum Qualifications

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at any level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
CLASSIFICATION STUDY NOTICE
This position is currently undergoing review as a part of the IT job class study and therefore both the title and the pay range assigned may be subject to change upon the completion of the study.
