The Grant Accountant is responsible for managing the financial administration of grants and sponsored research programs at the university. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations related to grant funding, financial reporting, and budgeting. The Grant Accountant collaborates with principal investigators (PIs), university departments, and external agencies to maintain financial integrity and ensure proper use of grant funds.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee post-award grant accounting, including budget setup, financial reporting, and expenditure monitoring.
  • Review and approve grant-related transactions, including payroll, procurement, and reimbursements.
  • Maintain accurate records of grant activities and prepare financial statements for internal and external audits.
  • Monitor grant budgets and provide financial forecasting to ensure appropriate use of funds.
  • Prepare and submit financial reports to funding agencies per grant requirements.
  • Collaborate with the university’s Finance, Sponsored Programs, and Human Resources departments to ensure accurate grant processing.
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff regarding grant accounting policies and best practices.
  • Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits related to grants and sponsored programs.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for audit readiness and compliance.
  • Identify potential financial risks in grant management and recommend corrective actions.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant accounting, financial management, or related fields, preferably in higher education or a nonprofit setting.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
